Cayenne Pepper for fibro

Hello all!
I came across a post on Facebook about the benefits of cayenne pepper. As I dug deeper I was amazed at how much info was out there about the benefits to fibro patients. Has anyone ever tried it or heard about it? Interesting stuff so just wanted to share.

I've heard of capsaicin peppers being used for arthritis pain relief. I looked it up and here's what I found:

Capsaicin comes from capsicum peppers and is commonly used as an ingredient in hot or spicy foods. When used medicinally, capsaicin works by stimulating the release of substance-P, the neurotransmitter that is related to pain sensation, which in turn depletes the stores found in nerve cells and reduces pain.

Uses

Capsaicin can be found as an active ingredient in an array of creams and lotions to help soothe pain associated with arthritis symptoms. Upon first use, capsaicin cream or lotion may lead to a burning sensation that should lessen with continued use.

Thanks for bringing this up, KVH. If I can remember to get some, I'd like to give it a try.

http://www.anniesremedy.com/herb_detail122.php You are right, KVH, here is one article! thanks! This would probably help with those cold chills that someone mentioned the other day!

I tried a lotion which contained a high content of cayenne, let me warn you that you do NOT want this on your private parts, girls! It can be a skin irritant, anywhere on your body, so take care with topical use, best to ingest it, I think!

Yeah. I found some interesting info for sure. I read you can make a tea with just the cayenne pepper and hot water. There were a few stories I ran across about people not handling the lotion too well. Causing lots of redness and burning sensations. But all in all there were some good stories and results. That’s if you can believe anything we read on the web these days.

And read if your feet are cold to sprinkle some in your socks!

I have Raynaud's, which is poor circulation in hands and feet, and the cold turns you white, sometimes blue, from lack of circulation, this would be a very good idea for me! Thanks, never thought of it!

I found this as a foot warmer. 5. My favorite tip of all comes thanks to Randi Young, a thread contributor at Ultrunr.com. Cayenne pepper keep feet warm. Turn your socks almost inside out, leaving the toe section cupped as it will be when you slide your foot in. Sprinkle a BIT of cayenne pepper into the portion of the sock where your toes and about 1" of your forefoot will be…just sprinkling the bottom of the sock seems to work well. Be certain to keep your hands clear of the pepper, because it will cause you immeasurable agony if conveyed to a contact lens or bare eye!..you won’t be happy if you try this with any open cuts or blisters nearby. Be sure and wash off well later.

LOL, now I'm just picturing the fallout of it on private parts! Gives new meaning to feeling "hot."

Thanks for the warning, SK. I've wanted to try it before but the ointment is expensive.
