Hello everyone. First off let me tell you I have asthma along with my fibro. I get pain in my ribs and up my sternum and periodically I get aches in the other regions as well. This is from what I know just part of my fibro and maybe some of my asthma. However last night while eating dinner out with my family my chest just felt uncomfortable and then I had a kinda sharp pain in my lower right chest and I just put it off and continued with my dinner but when I got in the car I had a really really sharp stabbing pain in my upper left chest. It lasted maybe 15 - 25 seconds and was rather scary. My chest ached the rest of the night but seams ok this morning. I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else? I know it might sound bad but I really don’t want to go to the doctor again. I was just there a couple of weeks ago and they sent me to see a urologist and I just went to him on weds and the week before, so really I have been to the docs once a week for the last 3 weeks. I feel like I’m there all the time, and I have had my heart checked in the past and its always been fine. Thanks for letting me kinda ramble. And thanks for your input.
Gentle hugs becca
Becca, I know how you feel about going to the doc AGAIN, but please, go to the doc again. What if you had a mild heart attack? None of us can tell, as we're not physicians. I know that fibro does cause pain in the ribs and I get it too BUT I also had my doc check my heart. Please be safe and get it checked out.
Becca, I do have similar symptoms but I don’t know if it’s fibromyalgia. I had it for about 4 months, finally went to the doctor and she is setting up a breathing test (i have mild asthma) and a stress test to rule out any other causes. I really think it’s important to see your doctor and make sure everything else has been checked out before assuming its fibromyalgia
hi becca i agree that if this is a new chest pain its worth a trip to the dr. i also have asthma and fibro. i get chest pains a lot. some r very familer so i dont worry. BUT if i have a new type of chest pain i get it checked. i know how u feel with multiple dr visits all close together.
i have a certian type of chest pain that when i get it i know my potissum is low and i need to get some in me right away. at times i have to be admitted and get it iv.
i have noticed an increase in chest pain with the fibro. even if it is a familar pain it still scares me. i guess i will never totally be ok with chest pain cause what if i ignore it and it turns out to be something serious.
i hope that what ever caused your pain was nothing serious. many hugs
Hi Becca,
So sorry you are going through this. Best to go back to your Dr and explain the type of pain, show him the region, let him listen to your heart, and don't fight him if he wants to send you for a stress test. I recently had one, and was then diagnosed by my Rheumatologist with Costochondritis.

Please get this checked, who knows what it could be, make sure!
Becca, I know you don’t want to go yet again … But what if that sharp pain was a warning to what could come… ?? Please call and go back to your dr, sometimes a simple EKG, can pick up something, like an old heart attach. You at the least need a stress test, ur dr. Can order this if you explain it maybe they will order it with out a visits, although you should go in.
Let me just tell say, I had intermittent chest pain it was always the same, ekg’s normal, went for upper GI to r/o reflux, stress test ok, finally, even after many trips to the cardiologist over a year, and of course “it’s anxiety” the cardiologist said lets just do a chest CT, pretty non invasive, it showed a 50% blockage in my largest heart vessel … So I had an angiogram and yep, 40% blockage , had I not been persistent I wouldnt have known until maybe … Well it’s better to know earlier, a
Crazy thing my Cholesterol is always great, I weigh 120 , and low b/p, problem, my family history of heart disease… So Feb is heart awareness month, put your mind at ease and see a cardiologist.
Hugs & blessings

I also get the costochondritis hurts like crazy, but after having it 3 times I know how to differentiate it.
You know, this is going to sound 'too easy' or may not make sense, but I have discovered that at least some of this Costochondritis problem, of mine anyway, is remedied by the digestive enzymes I take. I have lost my gall bladder, and as we age, we have less and less digestive juice to break down our foods, our teeth don't grind up the food as well. My Chiropractor had put me on Spectrazyme years ago for reflux, and you know after a while you get so tired of taking pills, you start to slip on some, but after I started taking this again, I noticed that I was not having the rib and sternum pain like before. I also take Probiotics which aid in digestion.

BTW, I am not a DR, not attempting to diagnose anyone, not selling supplements. This is something I have discovered that works for me and all of my Drs know that I take them and have no problems with this, they are plant based and break down protein, dairy, plant, even help digest spicy foods.
Thanks all
