Disibility Hearing

Hello, I have my disibility hearing next week. I don’t have an attorney. I was wondering if there’s any one who has represented themselves? And if so do you have any advice?

Unfortunately I no longer have representation, I THOUGHT I had a disability lawyer but they basically dropped me when they found out it was illegal in my state to take a SS disability case on contingency (??-I don’t even know if that’s true…:grimacing:) so now I’m doing this by myself too. I’m still in the appeals process so I wish you the best of luck and would love to keep in touch to hear how things went!

My advice is get a lawyer.

I’m sorry to hear that you lost your attorney. It’s definitely not easy for a person such as you and I, and many like us I suppose. I just reached out to an attorney, I’ll let you know how it goes. I would love to keep in touch and share our stories.

I just reached out to one. I couldn’t get one because I lost my health insurance and for awhile I wasn’t able to get treatment.

Good luck! Definitely keep me posted… and I wish you a peaceful, pain free, love-filled Thanksgiving Day today:turkey::maple_leaf::plate_with_cutlery:

If at all possible, even this late in the game, obtain the services of a SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY attorney. It is at no cost to you, initially. They obtain all needed medical documents; they complete the application; and they represent you at your hearing. If you win your case, they receive 25% of your back pay. You will receive pay from SOCIAL SECURITY and S.S.DI. I truly know that you need an attorney now. If all of your ducks are in a row, (meaning you have medical records that prove that you are disabled), and if you explain to the person who will be listening in to the hearing your limitations, you might do just fine! The medical records speak for themselves as do your explanations. I wish you all the best!!!

I am so sorry to learn that you lost your health insurance. I am assuming that that means you do not have any medical records that would prove that you are disabled. I hope that you can find a way to get the health care that you need. I hope that there is a HEALTH DEPARTMENT in your area. Please use the HEALTH DEPARTMENT! My heart goes out to you!!!

Where do you live? That doesn’t sound right! A SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY ATTORNEY does not work on a “contingency” basis. If you win your case, they get paid 25% of your back pay. I you lose, you don’t owe them a penny! Please read this article: https://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/when-can-social-security-disability-lawyer-take-more-than-6000-your-backpay.html

Thank you for sharing that article… I have been woefully misinformed :grimacing:
