Fasciculations

Hi all… I’m very newly Dx although they tried to Dx me in 2010 and I wouldn’t let them lol… My question is… Do any of you suffer from fasciculations (random muscle twitches that feel like tiny babies kicking under your skin lol? Also I have started having some left hand weakness and cramping with certain actions… Anyone else have this issue?? Any answers would be appreciated…

Welcome Cheyenne,

Yes, I have random muscle twitches. Not all the time but sometimes I can feel them mainly in my left shoulder and in my legs (at night). Some of the stuff I've read said FM is caused by constant muscle spasms so that's probably what your feeling.

Gentle Hugs,

Stacey

Hi Cheyenne!

Welcome to the group! Reading your profile, I can relate to the 'ups and downs' you experience. My downs can be caused by things like too much activity, too much stress, a severe dip in barometric pressure, and sometimes there just isn't a clear reason at all! For years I pushed so hard to get well, that I would crash myself, it was a cycle I try not to repeat anymore. Life doesn't always happen in a 'paced' kind of way, but sometimes, through practice it can get better.

There are times, especially when the weather is warm that I have some remarkable 'ups', and feeling good physically always lifts my spirits! I spend a lot of time outside with the little grand kids when the weather is warm, and that is not only good for my body, but remarkably good for my soul! Come on Spring!

As for my hands, the twitching, numbness, cramping, and weakness are from the Spondylitis type of Psoriatic Arthritis, which my Rheumatologist thinks caused the Fibromyalgia. I have collapsed discs, spinal stenosis, and scoliosis in my cervical spine. I also get skull cracking headaches from this at times!

That said, just the fibromylgia can cause the twitching you describe, doesn't have to be anything else! I saw on the link above that even dehydration can cause the twitching, that looked like about the only one we could easily remedy, and is worth consciously trying to drink more water!

Wishing you well,

SK

Thank you:)

Thanks Lovett:) unfortunately I’m a Dental Hygienist and am unable to slow down with my hands lol when they get like this:( this is actually a relatively new symptom and I’ve been I hygienist for 10 years… Thanks for your words of encouragement:)

first let me say welcome. yes I have them mostly in my left should and underarm and my legs. I have cramps in my hands and feet a lot. that the world of a fibro patient.I just got diagnosed last year.

soft hugs .

Cheyenne,

Have you tried crochet gloves you can find them at JoAnne's or any fabric shop should have them. I've heard they work. I they are kind of like compression gloves. They can probably go under your work gloves.

Hi Cheyenne,

Yes, I experience fasciculations and cramping. They feel like mini charly horses in random spots. If like your decription of tiny babies kicking. I started on Cymbalta in August when I was officially diagnosed with fibro. After a month or two I felt like I was getting worse. I brought it up to my doctor but her opinion was that I was getting worse and if not on Cymbalta my symptoms would be worse yet. I also take neurontin and vicodin for breakthrough pain. Last week I cut my dose of cymbalta in 1/2 out of frustration that I felt awful despite all the meds and suspicion it was the Cymbalta. I was pleasently surprised to find that immediatley the twitching and cramping decreased signficantly. Are you on Cymbalta? I guess 60 mg a day was too much for me.

Thanks PurplePixie:) good luck with you my friend:)

Your statement of diagnosis denial cracked me up! I’m so glad to know that I am not the only one. My doctors have been trying to treat me for fibro for over a year, but I wouldn’t let them! What do they know, anyway? Harrumph, silly doctors.

Hi there Cheyenne and welcome!

I get the cramps in my hands (thumb base) and hand and arm weakness. I used to answer many more letters on this site but the weakness and cramping makes it impossible. It's just part and parcel of the fibro, I'm afraid.

The twitches? no, i don't have them but another member can probably answer that part of your question.

Let me tell you how sorry i am that you have fibro. But we're here to help you out and try to help you understand the weird things that go with it. Please feel free to come back and participate as much or little as you like.

Gentle hugs,

Petunia

I would strongly advise checking with a doctor before changing your dosage because some people have extreme reactions to cutting down or cutting out Cymbalta and Lyrica and even some anti-depressants. You're lucky, Liza, that you found out that the Cymbalta got rid of the Charly horses. And better still that cutting back on your dosage didn't affect you. I've heard a lot of different reactions to changing a dose. I guess our bodies can be extremely different in how they process medicines and lack of medicines. Seems odd because if the same thing that helps me helps you, you'd think that if I could get off of it easily, so should you. But that's not how it works.

Just a warning to folks so they don't find out the hard way.

Yes, I have a time of these random muscle twitches– Never thought of them as tiny babies kicking under my skin though before! :) Most of mine tend to be in my hands and my feet, But I do get them in my back and another places too. I take Tizanidine and that seems to help. Of course, a good massage often helps too, or a heating pad, or long soak in a hot bath.

Welcome to the community! I'm sorry you have fibro but happy you have found this forum that is full of warm and wonderful people.

Best wishes,

Meadow

Lol Grumpy Cat! The Rheumy said “ya Fibro” I laughed at her, told her it was a waste basket Dx and she just didn’t know what was wrong with me and walked out of her office, haha!!! The Rheumy this time told me I was being “knocked down” by Fibro and that it was a REAL Dx:) this time I agreed, although I still feel there is a secondary Dx somewhere lurking…
