Fibro, pregnancy, temporary remission

Dean Fisher, husband of Leanne Fisher(member)

My wife and I have had a child who is now 16mths old. Before becoming pregnant my wife suffered greatly with fibromyalgia. During pregnancy and for 1yr after it seemed to go into remission, however in the last 4mths things are starting to go back to how they were. Needless to say we're devastated at the thought of this happening. Has anyone else had the same experiences? Surely there must be a link to a cure or better treatment from this.

I have not, but fibro is an illness that is like this.

Hi,

In my experience, and I am not a doctor, there is no cure for Fibro. I have been told by many medical providers that there is no cure for Fibro and I have done my own independent research in scholarly articles. I have never been pregnant, but my husband and I are starting to plan for a family and worry about this as well. My treatment team consists of a Rheumatologist, Chiropractic, Massage Therapist, medication management with my Primary Care Provider and a counselor to cope with this diagnosis. I also use a lot of non-medication interventions like hot baths with Epsom salts, aromatherapy to reduce stress which can cause flares and Salonpas patches for muscle tension relief. I'm sorry I don't have feedback for you regarding pregnancy and remission, but if Fibro symptoms are starting to come back, I would definitely talk with your doctor and start developing a plan now that allows you and your family to function as normally as possible with this transition. I'm sorry you are both going through this.

Hi,

I wanted to also pass on a link kindly shared by one of our mods who serves on multiple communities. It discusses remission of autoimmune illness during pregnancy-

Your wife may want to consider an evaluation by a rheumatologist for possibility of autoimmune illnesses which are distinct illnesses that can exist alongside Fibro or on their own. Best wishes. Please keep us posted.

I agree with Baltimore baby... I have Fibro and MS... I know that MS goes into a remission during pregnancy... Just make sure that your Wifes Drs. have tested her for ALL auto immune and that includes MS. Nobody should ever be diagnosed with Fibro before ruling out EVERYTHING else...

Hello, I actually brought this up to my doctor at my last appointment. For some reason when I was pregnant with my last child (12yrs ago), I remember feeling so much better than before & after the pregnancy. The doctor couldn't tell me why but it's strange that you mention this. It'd be nice if we could find something to link it to help alleviate some of the issues.
