I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia since 2004, I honestly do not know how long (years) I suffered with before the diagnosis. I need to know if I am the only Fibro patient that suffers from itching. It just about drives me crazy, mainly my scalp.
Hello edie,
I have no idea if itching is a symptom of fibro, it will be interesting to see if othermembers respond. Myself, I often get itchy hands and itchy head at times. First thing springs to mind, when you mention itchy head, is nits. I checked I didn’t have them, and pharmacist suggested piriton, or other anti-histamine. Now I am not an allergic person, but it did the trick for me. The other possibilties are, your shampoo (or other product you put in hair), or meds. Good luck and I hope you get some relief soon.
Take care, Anne
AnnaV, I thought about lice and nits because I work in a prison. I had my husband and beautician check my head and they didn’t see anything. I will try the anti-histamine. Thank you and God Bless
odd that you say that. my arms and head have been itching like crazy lately. i can’t figure out what is causing it. maybe it is fibro. if so it’s a new symptom.
You are welcome, let us know if it works!
Take care, Anne
Rashes are a symptom of fibromyalgia, I never had any till about the 1st of this year.(diagnosed in 2010) I had just laid down for the night and my thigh started itching like crazy, so I looked at it and I had a very bumpy red rash. Very itchy!! It lasted about 3 days. A week or so later I had a similar one, smaller bumps on my forearm. That lasted only about a day and a half.
I also have terrible itching. I have it in my scalp and it too drives me insane. I itch on my fore arms and legs. I tend to be an allergic person, so its comforting to know I am not alone and that I am not going nuts!
I have also found that benadryl helps. I changed shampoos thinking I had dry scalp, but that hasn’t helped much. Take care and God Bless u all!
I have tried taking Bynadrl before bed. It works wonders. I also suffer from allergies.
Hello Edie - I just came across your post and I too have been noticing a lot of itchiness. Mine is not on my head but rather my whole body. I have had Fibro for almost 20 years and recently I have been noticing this. I thought maybe it had to do with the Lyrica that I started to take 6 months ago. Maybe it is the fibro but after all this time I would have thought I would have noticed this before. It is very annoying for me and drives me crazy to. I will be asking my doctor about it when I see her. If I find out anything interesting I will come back and post it. Hang in there…
Thank you. I have had this itch for years but chalked it up to dry skin. I have read that it is a symptom of fibromyalgia.
I have also been struggling with the itching, but mine is EVERYWHERE. Including my scalp. And no I do not have dry skin.
Hi! Over here itching like I have the chickenpox’s lol! But on a serious note c you please share with me you tried or where prescribed for the itching because I’m literally drinking Benadryl from the bottle at least twice a day for the past week!
Hi there! Sorry for sliding in - just wanted to say I have severely itched from many meds and from water contact, so finding those triggers and stopping / strictly reducing them helps me, nothing else.
I’ve had that since long before fibro and seems a mast cell issue, a kind of neurodermatitis (outside, and inside too, so IBS and difficulty with many foods and drinks, incl. pure water/tea).
Hi Edie - I found the itching to be from nerves. When my nerves are really firing off, I start to itch everywhere. Also, I live in a cold climate which dries my skin put and this makes me itch more. I was put on an antibiotic one time because I scratched so much my sores got infected. I have to make a point of putting moisturizer on no matter how I feel that day. The cream does help and massaging it in helps which helps to calm my nerves a bit. I also take Benadryl when I just can’t stop scratching. I hope you are able to find something that helps. Hang in there. Elaine
