FYI - Follow-up to Involuntary jerks and movement of arms, legs and body

Hello all,

There is actually a medical term associated with these involuntary movements. It is called "Periodic Limb Movement Disorder". Follow the link below if you are interested in reading more on this.

Best wishes to everyone!

Another interesting one to check out is Restless Legs Syndrome

Hey Mike,

Thank's for adding RLS! I had posted a discussion a few weeks ago asking if anyone else had been experiencing involuntary jerks with their legs or arms even sometimes body tremors. Anyway I didn't have a name of this, but it appears from the responses I received many others did in fact have this. So in reading about RLS I came across this section which talked about Periodic Limb Movement Disorder which seems more like what I had described and experienced. This apparently is very common condition and like RLS little is known as to the cause! Go figure! lol It's rather annoying as it can keep you from falling asleep and/or wake you up. Sue x

Hey DreamCatcher,

Thanks for giving us the proper name for our involuntary leg movements. And although mine are usually in the leg, occasionally my arms, hands or trunk are also affected by it. It feels so weird to have your hand nearly slap your face because it jumps and then lands so hard! Shheesh!

Hello Sue

Thank you for your research. I have had Restless Leg Syndrome for several years now. My doctor prescribed a med. that I take at bedtime if I have the problem. It certainly has not cured the problem. I find that it is specially bothersome if I have been on my feet a lot during the day.

I haven't really wondered about the Periodic Movement Disorder as being a named problem. However, when I read the research you have done I most certainly do have it.

So, thank you for your research. It's explanation definitely fits what I have.

gentle hugs

Rachel

I so relate! lol and definitely not our fault or should we be blamed if we should involuntarily slap someone else wink, wink we can blame it on this disorder! It is a rather a weird condition...gotta laugh and thank the Lord it's not painful!!

My pleasure Rachel...I had posted this subject a few weeks ago and in researching more info on Fibro I happened to come across this section. I was so surprised to read that this symptom actually had a name and is considered common! Sorry to hear about your RLS on top of it! Your right about when these symptoms occur...I notice it's when I've overdone it during the day and whether I'm lying down to rest or gone to bed that is when it starts! No rest for us!!

Best wishes,

Sue
