I realise it's normal for some people to twitch or jump a bit as they're falling asleep but as soon as I get into bed, for about 45 minutes my limbs can twitch and at times really jump involuntarily, it can be quite unsettling till it stops then I fall asleep.
I don't feel tense on going to bed, if I did I could put this twitching/jumping down to my body relaxing, perhaps it still is connected to the relaxing of the body and to do with the nervous system, I don't know.
Does anyone else have this on going to bed, would be nice to know I'm not alone with this, it's quite unsettling every night!!!
Wow, I was about to post something very similar when I saw your post. With me, I get the involuntary twitching in my legs or knees. It only happens (so far) when I'm lying down. I also don't feel tense when I go to bed. I wonder what it could be??
Thanks for your reply, glad I'm not the only one! I'm not sure what the reason is but my Pain Consultant did say that Fibro is associated with the nervous system so maybe it's nerve endings calming down. Just a guess!!
My Nero Dr did a sleep study and found i do that all night i was given requip and amitriptline sorry can not spell this morning i sleep better and wake more rested
My consultant tried me on amitriptyline but sadly I was the one out of thousands that it had the opposite effect on!! Made me completely hyperactive and in such an anxious tizz I didn't know what to do with myself!! Still it was worth a try!
I take mirtazapine 15mg at night, an antidepressant/anti-anxiety relaxant type tablet, I get about 4 hours sleep from it then wake all stiff and achy, he's thinking of increasing the dose soon.
Hi Lucy. I'm sorry you have to deal with this. I think Restless Leg Syndrome is pretty common amongst us with fibro. I have been having a real bad time the last few weeks. I am attributing mine to two things. 1) I have been titrating down my Lyrica dosage, stopped all vicodin and titrated completely off of effexor. 2) We have had house guests, which has caused me a lot of anxiety.
I had to raise my dosage of magnesium and calcium, which are good for the muscles (SK knows all about this) and I had to bump up my clonazepam dose a tiny bit. Now I can get to sleep at night.
Talk to your doctor or naturopath about it. I would definately start taking a magnesium supplement at night with some calcium citrate and vitamin d3.
I'm already on Vit D supplement as my levels were very low (9) but will try the magnesium, have you found this helps? I don't sleep well, get about 4hrs solid then just dozing for the rest of the night, my legs are so fidgety! Some nights they feel as though they don't belong to me! Would this be "restless leg syndrome" too? and is there anything to help with that? What dosage of magnesium do you take?
I'm not a doctor, but that is exactly what RLS is. It keeps you from getting to sleep along with causing that awful, indescrible fidgity feeling. I have even done the bicycle exercise thing in bed (while my poor husband is sleeping) to try to get the legs exhausted enough to relax. That doesn't work btw!
Do an internet search and read up on restless leg syndrome. There are supplements that include magnesium, calcium, manganese and vit d3 all together. Also, take a bath in Epsom Salts (It's magnesium) and add baking soda.for relaxation right before bed. Check out this link.
