Hearing Issues

Hi FibroChou, You said it all better than I did. I too get totally disoriented, nauseated and depressed. It's very hard dealing with all these symptoms. I had 2 of my grandchildren at my home today and I could barely function. I try not to complain in front of my family and admit that I am totally miserable but it's getting impossible to hide and to deal with. Is there no end???

It is normal to feel angry when your body is literally being assaulted with noise. Military uses sonic weapon. Loud bass in a car should be illegal. I become dizzy and disoriented when someone is blasting their stereo in the car that I almost cannot drive.

nannygin- I am sorry to hear that, but I think your family should know how you feel so they can help. How old are your grandchildren? Can you tell them that you are sick and ask them to speak quietly around you? When I need some sound proof, I wear a scarf around my head. Can you wear earplugs (I can't wear earplugs because they hurt.)? You could also wear one of those cute winter animal hats to cover your ears? When I am having a flare, I cannot even stand it when kids are screaming in another room - then, I am helpless. In that case, I just have to be home alone and ask everyone to leave if they have to be loud. However, children (even the small ones) should learn to be quiet when they need to.

Does anyone else have to pick and choose the days they can drive? I was thinking about getting a P/T job but how can I, when I never know how I'll be when I wake up. Will I be so dizzy I can't stand up, or so disoriented I can see straight, or may just confused and can't think correctly. Will my legs ache so much that I can't stay in bed or can't stand up. Maybe my hands will hurt so much I want to cry. I'm so over this disorder. It has forced me to change my entire life just at the time I thought I could start living.

Hi jm - Have you looked into the fact that you might have Vertigo?? I have Vertigo and sounds are horribly amplified when it's going on. Always in my right ear. There is no cure for it (as far as I know) and I have had it for about 30 years. Do the noises or voices you hear sound distorted? Laurie

Yes, I have been checked for vertigo, and sounds are distorted. I have gone to a neurologist for it and they recommended I go to the National Balance and Dizzy Center here in Minnesota. Unfortunately, the center isn't near by. I would have to make an event of it. Plus, I feel like I have tried so many things and ended up disappointed, I am afraid to try something else.

I have felt the same way. I have even told doctors that I didn't think I should be driving (after driving to their office!). But it isn't every day. I could go for several days without an incidence and then, BAM! it hits me. And sometimes it hits me at the most inopportune time. Such as sitting at a stop light. I hate it. Too bad there isn't a monitor for this, right?
