I had a very rough weekend. I was limping around the house because my hips, knees and sciatic nerve were acting up. It feels like a very deep ache in my hips and the sciatic nerve pain is almost unbearable. It takes the maximum dosage of my pain medication to even numb the sciatic nerve pain. I mostly feel it is my buttocks, hip and shooting down my leg. Whenever I step or put pressure on my right heel, it causes extreme pain. I've been seeing my Chiropractor and it usually helps about 1-2 days after an adjustment, but then the pain comes back. This weekend, I could hardly get any relief and I felt like I was so doped up on pain medication, that I could barely function. I felt sleepy, groggy and annoyed. It is frustating to have to take the maximum amount of pain medication to try to get relief from pain when it makes me feel so groggy and out of it. Warm baths do help, but I can't lay in the bathtub all day. The hard wood floors in my house definitely DO NOT help the pain. I've even tried slippers with a big foam cushion sole, but it only provides mild relief.
Anyone have any suggestions for pain relief of joint or Sciatic nerve pain?
I am sorry to hear this... My brother gets sciatic nerve pain from a car accident and he has had some luck with Capsaicin gel and Aleve. Let's see what others have to say as well. Hope you feel better soon!
Sorry to hear about your pain. I, too, have hip, knee and sciatic pain. I haven't found a lot of relief yet, but just wanted to let you know there are more of us out there....
You might want to see a doctor to have some xrays done. I had that type of pain for years and kept telling my doctor it was my hip. Once after a really bad week I went to my doctor and said it was my back, they took xrays and found the problem. I needed surgery. Something might be pinching your nerve. After my surgery I felt so much better.
I had that problem almost 4 years ago. I tried everything like you have but it just got worse. I knew I’d have to go to the doc when I was off another day from work, writhing in pain, down on the floor, screaming & unable to walk. It took me nearly an hour to manage to drag myself thru the house & pull myself up on the couch. My doctor ordered an MRI & I had to be immediately admitted thru the ER for an emergency surgery because I had a blown out disc. The surgeon told me later that it was the worse case he’d ever scene; another 24-48 hours I would have been paralyzed. In my case, it blew out on the side of the disc & managed to send tiny shards of bone toward my spinal cord, putting extreme pressure on the surrounding nerves. All of this just to tell you that you are at the point where you definitely need to be seen by your doctor. Get better soon, Sara!
I only know of how to get pain relief from the sciatic, but, you have to lie on the floor. If you have hard wood floors everywhere, you will have to fold a towel to get some cushion for the sciatic. You need a kitchen chair, you lie down on the floor with your hiney & the back of your legs touching the front of the chair legs, & bend at the knee to rest your calves & feet on the seat of the chair. You will need to stay there for as long as an hour, so make sure you empty your bladder, have the TV remote in your hand & a good book to read.
The best time to see your MD is when you are bent over & limping in pain, because then he/she thinks "Oh craaaap, this is nooot good", my MD's receptionist told me you can pay your copay another time, the nurse came into the waiting room pushing a wheelchair & wheeled me into an exam room. The MD ordered a pain shot into my hiney,,,, usually those Dabnabbit shots HURT, I didn't feel it!!! M
I made an appointment with my PCP for 1/21/2015 (soonest available) and requested he order an MRI/Xray before the appointment to try and see if he can tell what is going on.
I think it is progressing and getting worse. I use to only have this Sciatic pain once every few days and now it seems as if it is daily. It went from every few days to every other day, and now it is daily. It hurts so bad when I step on my right heel! It shoots pain right into my hip joint and hip area, along with my right buttock. I'm hoping it is something simple, and I'm praying I won't need surgery. The thought of surgery scares me a lot.
Don’t be scared. If you do need surgery they have made lots of improvements. You might want to ask your PCP for a recommendation, I was lucky and my sister went first.

I'm reaching out for some additional support. I am in A LOT of pain today. I should have stayed home : ( My hips and legs are aching terribly! It is affecting my concentration at work and my productivity. People who don't have this don't understand how pain can affect your mind, body and spirit. It really brings us down in the dumps and affects every aspect of our being.
