How I get decent sleep

I too have an Android phone. Can you tell me the names of these apps? My psychiatrist discontinued my Seroquel & now I'm having a terrible time getting & staying asleep! Please help!!

My sleep problems seem to be the opposite of what I hear from everyone else. I can go to sleep, but the pain wakes me up within an hour or so of going to sleep. Of course, I have to couple that with a severe case of sleep apnea, which doesn't help. I end up in a recliner about an hour or two after going to bed. At the worst, the pain when getting into bed was so extreme that I dreaded bed time. I didn't want to go to bed because I knew it would hurt so bad. Fortunately, I have been on a campaign of reducing the stressors in my life, and with less stress, I find less pain as well. For me, that seems to be the key to control is removing stressors.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Wendy

I don’t have anything but a tracfone. Trazadone has worked for me for a long time. Glad you found what works for you and hopefully others.

Hi Wendy :) I'm so glad you're able to deal with the stress so you have some relief. Stress is the "other" enemy that exacerbates FM or anyone suffering from an autoimmune disease. I used to be able exercise a lot to keep the stress low, but can't do that anymore. I need peace and quiet now. I can't keep circumstances from happening but I ask myself how important it is to get upset over. It's usually no, but my body doesn't understand that at times.

Wendy, I have severe obstructive sleep apnea & have a bi-pap, which is similar to a C-pap. Have you ever had a sleep test done? If not, I recommend that you do, as well as anyone else who has FM due to our sleep problem.

Twice. And I have paid $5,000 to a specialist to try to make me custom masks that didn't work either. I apparently have a blocked nasal passage, but because I also have a genetic blood clot disorder, the surgeon has twice refused to perform the surgery to open that passage. Without it, the specialist said I would probably continue to be unable to use the CPAP. Within just a few minutes of putting it on, I am totally gasping for air, so I either rip the mask off or the hose out of the machine in order to breathe.

Thank you for the information about the apps, I'm always looking for ways to make my life better any way I can. I know probably many people have thought I was nuts! The way I get some good sleep is I take a muscle relaxer, an ambien, and trazadone. I don't fall asleep right away, but I do fall asleep. I also have taken many of the steps that are outlined in "Figuring out fibromyalgia" by Ginerva Lipton MD. Whoever told us about this book, I think your amazing! I love it! I feel like I understand fibromyalgia so much better. It has helped me to the point where I am excercising almost daily. Before, I would of been in bed for a week or more. I am not having fibromyalgia attacks all the time and can refresh and not spend a day in bed after an unusually busy day for me. I have felt like my life has been watching everyone else have a life. Not eating the foods that inflame or bother you, cannot believe that difference. Also I have been giving myself magnesium injections. I found out that the magnesium you buy over the counter just gets in your blood stream and does not get into your muscles where you need it. I have not had fibro fog in 3 weeks following the suggestions. I am so much happier and feel like I am not going to be a 100% ever but I will get to be 90%.

Ain't that the truth! I can't take any sleep meds because I have Orthostatic Hypotension, which means my bp is very low and when I go from a sitting to standing position it takes a dive into the 80's and 90's. I get immediate headaches and get really dizzy. I've passed out a couple of times as well.

Sleep meds tend to lower bp. I tried Traz. and the next morning my bp was lower then it usually is. I wish I could take something though. Anybody got any ideas on this? I have really severe sleep disorders. Thanks.

Hi Rain,

My sleep as has been poor for about 3 years now, after reading things here I researched melatonin, apparently if you don't go into "deep sleep" your brain does not produce this too well and can then cause aches and pains and fatigue!

So after reading that there are virtually no s/effects and mixes well with other medication, I gave it a go, they advise 1-3mg at night, one lady here takes 5mg, I've been on just 1mg for 2 weeks now and my sleep is getting much better, I used to wake at about 2am now it's more like 6am, which is great for me, I take quite a lot of medication so was a bit anxious about it but it's fine.

Might be worth your reading up on it and try it yourself, apparently you can get in health food shops in the US.

I will have to check in to that app. I usually turn on my heating blanket and take a hot bath in lavender . It helps relax you and encourages sleep

Hi Lucy :) thank you for the information. I think I mentioned I tried melatonin in the last post and it gave me nightmares. I was taking 5mg. but maybe I should lower the dosage and see if that helps or I may need to increase it to get the REM sleep I need so badly.

I'll definitely do more research on it and try it again. My pharmacy is very good about explaining new meds to me so I can give them a call too.

I just feel so raw from the lack of sleep. This has been going on for years and years and it just causes an enormous amount of internal and external chaos. Again thanks for responding. :)

Hi Kim :) I don't have a phone that has apps. so if there's another way I can get this, let me know. I don't have a bathtub, just a shower, but I have a shower seat and I usually sit and let the warm water wash over me and use some natural body gels that have cammomile in them. I turn off everything, the TV, lights and put on ear plugs to block out any kind of ambient sounds.. . and then wind up looking at the ceiling for hours lol!

I don't mean to sound negative, but sometimes it all just gets to me. I sure appreciate your input though. Thanks so much! ;)

Have you tried Phenergan, also known as promethazine hydrochloride, it's taken here in the UK for insomnia, usually 5-10mg tab at night, check with your pharmacist, just incase this causes hypotension too. You don't need a prescription for it here.

Just another idea!!

Okay, I'll ask him about it. Love good ideas ;)

No Rain you are not being Negative at all . Everyone circumstances is different . One thing I learned from many People on the tn site is this. What works for one person my not work for others. So its time to Experiment a little with different things. You my try to go to Walmart or some where like that and find a CD for relaxation and sleep sounds. Also if you get an electric oil warmer . You get oils such as lavender or peppermint. And try those . I still have my share of sleepless nights. But you can research different things online on relaxation and sleeping, I also like celestial seasonings sleepytime tea. I also grow lavendar in pots that way I have a ready supply. You might be surprised what effect Crushed fresh rose mary my have in a little water in a oil warmer. I hope this helps you . Hugs

Oh my My daughter got me this great gift set . It by Earth therapeutics . My favorite thing that came in it was the Anti- Stress pillow mist Its chamomile and lavender. And chamomile tea is another great bedtime tea

And if lavender ends up being your thing Yardleys makes a wonderful soap and you can find it any where even at the dollars store
