Hi everyone. Hope your day was well.
People may think I’m weird for all the ways I have tried to tolerate this illness better. I don’t care, I have studied a lot on my illness and I want a decent life. I can tell u what has worked for me and love to hear the same:).
For a couple of years, I have listened to tons of relaxing, self hypnosis cds. I have read a book on it, researched on the internet because it seemed to work. I have tried so many, I even used my phone as a voice recorder and made my own. Ok, yeah kinda strange but losing sleep made me desperate. lol.
I found some ammmmaaaazing sleep apps on my android. They are made by Rick Collingwood. I have energy boost and power nap both downloaded on my phone. They have trained me how to sleep again. I put in under my pillow and usually pass out within minutes. The apps I have are free and I know he has cds and apps you can buy too.
I get at least some deep sleep which is soooo important for our health. Our bodies can’t heal without it.
I hope I don’t sound like a know it al. I just try to do aot of research and would like to share what works for mme. Hope this helps. Even if one person benefits, that’s wonderful.
I believe if I hadn’t researched like I did, heard other peoples stories and experiment with ways for relif, I think I would be very depressed.
Gentle hugs fibro friends;)
Thanks M for sharing this, I have an I phone and its very out dated, but I will check it out for sure when I get my new phone hopefully this month, just waiting for apple to make their big announcement tomm( sep 10 )
I hope someone can find the benefit in this as you have
I have cd.s of native American chants I listen to and most of the time they are wonderful and I go to sleep quickly. Sharing is a great way to help people on this site thank you for posting this
Thanks for sharing!! My insomnia is terrible and I will try just about anything to get a good night of sleep!! I have an Iphone but will check out my acailable aps!!
Thank you! I will check those out now that I have a smart phone. I like to listen to Emmett Miller/Les Halpern 'Letting Go of Stress' before bed. (I hope I got the names right). My husband is tired of hearing it over and over though, so I need to try more things I can listen to on my phone.
I too have been doing a lot of research into fibro, sleep and pain is my main problem, I read up on melatonin and the fact that if you don't get sufficient "deep sleep" you don't produce sufficient melatonin which results in daily fatigue and pain.
I recently bought some melatonin, just last week, and I cannot quite believe the difference!!!
I had not slept for more than 3-4 hours in the night for years! I've now had 5 nights of sleeping from 11pm till about 6am, am taking 2mg melatonin at bedtime, no ill effects and am very slowly getting a bit more energy back in the day. It's amazing!!
I can't get it here in the UK so I have it shipped over from the US.
It may be too early to tell and I hope it's not just a fluke but it seems to be helping!!!
Thank you for sharing this with us. I need to keep his name handy because sleep is getting harder and harder to come by. I really do appreciate this suggestion. And you're right, we can't function properly if we're not getting deep sleep. Thank you!!
This is a great suggestion and one I'll bring up with my GP. My only caution to people is to check with a doctor first as you may be on anti-depressants and other meds that may interact with melatonin and cause seratonin syndrome, which can be deadly. Lucy, I'm delighted for you and hope that your good luck continues. Please keep us posted.
I guess we are not all the same. I have tried melatonin and it has had no effect on me, no help with sleep. But that doesn't mean that another person could not find it helpful.
I uploaded a few Rick Collingwood apps to my phone. The power nap one has really helped me fall asleep! I still have to take sleep meds, but I've been really stressed out lately, and this is helping. Thank you!!!
I am so glad its helping Nikki. I can use it at night time and usually wake up enough to take the phone from under my pillow and Im out for the night.
Now as soon as I hear his voice, I get drowsy. I have been using these apps for months and seem to get decent sleep. Rick seems to be good at what he does. I wouldlove to hear if anyone else has had luck. Sleep is so important for us.
Hello :) I have no problem with "weird" lol! It's the story of my life with FM. I think it's outstanding that you have researched things to help you and others so thoroughly. If that's consider weird, I'll buy a bottle of it from you ;) I've done lots of research as well and I'll check this guys cd's out. I'm always open to finding out new things to help with sleep, which is fleeting for a lot of us to say the least.
I have severe sleep disorders and have had them for most of my adult life. Nights are the worst for me. I'm more wired and agitated at night then I am at any other point in the day. I've done studies on "Adrenal Surges" which are common with autoimmune diseases and can give our bodies a false reading that we're alright and then one or two days later we crash and are wondering what the heck happened.
These surges are the "Fight of Flight" adrenaline rush people get under extreme stress. Well, our bodies are stressed all the time, so the surges are the bodies way of trying to survive the illness, but it's the wrong message. I've had to learn to not listen to that. It's hard, really hard because I used to be able to exercise all that nervous energy away and now I can't. So I do deep breathing and try and prevent a lot of outside stress from getting me ramped up as well. These CD's sound like a good way to go for this. Thanks so much! :)
I have down loaded those two apps and look forward to trying them. I don't think I have slept without drugs in... years. I'm sure this is part of the fibro fog. Which has gotten so bad that sometimes it hurts to try and think... not even deep thinking just thinking. its like my thoughts are tired and grumpy. I have been having migraines almost daily for the last two weeks and I'm sure it is sleep related.
Thank you for sharing your research. I like to do that and read everything i can get my hands on but truthfully this last year I am too tired to concentrate on anything that long.
Again.. Thank you... and don't apologize for being your own advocate...
Thank you for sharing this information. Sleep is one of my big problems, I only get 2-3 hours at a time. I am allergy to Melatonin and hate the idea of sleeping pills.
