Hyper-sensitive to sound/noise

Does anyone else become hyper-sensitive to sound/noises? As in feeling them? I’ve had this all day today and its coincided with my skin being hyper-sensitive too. It’s almost like someone suddenly putting their hand in me or making me jump. It’s extremely odd. I’ve had it before but not for this length if time.

What do you mean by "feeling them?" I feel like sounds go up my spine sometimes. It makes me very nervous and agitated. Sometimes if I feel like the noises around me are too loud I will ask someone if it's me or if it's really too loud. If they say it's just me, I will put cotton in my ears. I know it sounds crazy but it really helps. When I find that I am gong through a spell where I am extremely sensitive to sound, I will carry cotton balls in my pockets all the time. It really takes the edge off and helps me be calmer. Hope this helps!

Its really hard to explain. It’s like the sounds are amplified and today its almost like they’re causing discomfort and sensation in my skin. It’s not that the sounds are loud even, so much as they give me this sensation.

Thanks for your reply though as any feedback on this is very helpful.

Actually the first part where you describe tingles and feeling agitated is a bit like this. I’m even finding the sound of the neighbours light switches being turned on/off is making me uneasy and jumpy.

Absolutely, and don't forget light! The one that bothers me the most is the bright kitchen light! ugh!

My daughter gets this with migraines - even her hair hurts her scalp! My migraines are sensitive to light.

My fibro is very sensory-sensitive, so when the TV is on in the other room, the sound can wind up my fibro. If there is too much family activity before bed, I can't decompress enough to sleep, and I am very jumpy.

Is there a change in your environment that could be winding up your sensory sensitivity? That is how I discovered the TV-sound relationship (my husband likes it on all the time - ouch!).

Sending gentle, silent hugs to you.

HI Lorraine - I know what you are talking about. I literally jump out of my skin sometimes when I hear noises - which otherwise wouldn't bother me. It's interesting - because since I have been on this website - I am finding that quite possibly Fibro includes a whole range of things that I never thought of before. Have you ever had a fever where you skin is really tender to the touch? Well, this is what I feel when skin is sensitive. Weird!! Also, my sensitivity to cold is really heightened when I have a flare-up. Good Grief!! Haven't we all gone through enough?? I am seeing things on this website that tell me that with this Fibro, so much more goes on, and it happens over time, you know? But you know what?? This group that we keep in touch with all the time, are really the best survivors out there and I am very proud to be a part of this site. Kudos to all of you out there trying to do the best you can!! Hugs!! Laurie

Hello Lorraine

From time to time I have found that it's a good idea to read the list of symptoms of fibromyalgia because new ones are added. These very ones are now on the list.

Yes, I am supersensitive to lights and sounds the past three years.

Gentle hugs

Rachel

HI rattled - Laurie here. I was diagnosed with Neuropathy about 3 years ago. My nerves are so sensitive sometimes and it hurts when they flare up. Even my scalp hurts! Believe it!! I agree - hot showers are the best! I used to just take a hot bath and relax - but I don't do this anymore because, for obvious reasons, I am afraid I won't be able to get out of it! LOL I miss it though. I too, feel things that I know I shouldn't feel. Very strange too. Hugs!!

Reviewing fibro symptom resource books/websites is helpful. A dynamic that intrigues me is the wind-up that the central nervous system does as it becomes more and more excited. I wonder if this could be why you feel it - the neural signal has wound up and is sending signals everywhere. Just thinking out loud....

I should have said how bright lights and noise affect me. They give me a headache..........often develops into a migraine.
