I don't know anymore

I don't know how much longer I can continue with my job as a correction officer. The pain seems to just keep getting worst everyday. No one at work except my husband knows how hard it is on me and sometime I don't think he really knows. I can't quit my job because of bills and my kids, but I don't think I can do it much longer. The last 4 days I have worker I come home with my feet and ankles swollen and hurting so bad I wish I could just cut them off. Then this morning I woke up to my back hurting so bad that I could barely get out of bed. It would have been better on me to have called in, but I didn't want to put my co-workers in danger because I wasn't there if something had happen.

Do you have short term disability through your employer?

Hi Little Bit,

Sorry to hear you are hurting so, concrete is torture on us, I know! What has your Doctor said, you have to have your Doc in on what is happening to you! If you would file for any kind of leave, you are going to need them.

I feel your pain, hope it eases up!

So sorry to hear that you are hurting so bad, I know how that feels especially when you end up hiding it from others. I use to be really good at hiding it and now I know it helps not to have to hide it, but even so I’m not sure people, my hubby and mom, know how bad it is sometimes. Does your coworkers or employer know that you have fibro? Before I was diagnosed my coworkers cornered me and told me I wasn’t pulling my weight cause I couldn’t come in as early as they did, they came in at 4 am, and I broke down in tears trying to explained to them something I didn’t know about myself. I’m sorry I can’t give you more advice, I can only imagine how bad it can get since I am now a stay at home mom with a 2 and 3 year old and know how head that in itself is. I wish you all the luck and hope you feel better soon.

Little Bit i to am a correction officer at a small sheriff's office but i work mostly in dispatch. Is there any way that you can get into a dispatch position? I hate to say if your hurting so bad at work you may get hurt worse or not be that much help if you do have an insident with an inmate. My jailer helps me alot with everything. I hope things get better for you. Let your Dr. know whats going on, really worried about your feet and ankles. I know about the kids and bills because im in the same boat here but I let my jailer know what was going on and he has stepped up with helping.

We don't have short term disability at work. At this time there are no positions that wouldn't have me on my feet all day. To get a caseworker job I have to go to college.

Hi Little Bit,
I want to recommend a disability handbook to use as a guide in applying for disability. There are also other resources on the website. The link is http://www.masscfids.org/disability/disability-handbook.
It helped me tremendously and I hope it might help you. Is your doctor providing the support you need?
Take care
