Yesterday I had the strangest thing happen. While riding to our daughters house with my husband I completely forgot where we were going. It was the scariest feeling Ive had in a long time. It was brief and with a very patient explanation from my husband I quickly remembered. Last week I went to a pt appointment at 11:00 and signed in as if it were 9:00, only to realize about 20 minutes later what I had done. I have often felt very overwhelmed by too much information, but this memory issue is new. I also feel like I really have to concentrate when speaking to people to make sure my words stay in order and make sense to them. is this fibro fog??? Ive been taking meds for 6 months now so I wouldnt think thats the cause. Any information or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Most of us have fibro fog and one time or another. Some meds can cause it to be worst or better I couldn't take lyrica because when we increased it I couldn't remember any thing. I find mine is worst when I am really fatigued or have to much going on at one time. Try and pace yourself and get plenty of rest. I do not drive anymore because I got lost several times driving in places i had been for years.
Yes, this is the “FOG”! It will vary day to day. I find my train of thoughts become derailed. Some days I am very eloquent, while other days I can’t find the right words or concentrate on the tasks at hand.
Totally identify with this!!! I will be mid-sentence and totally forget what I'm talking about. You can't even see it coming, it just happens!! It's extremely frustrating!!! No words could describe the feeling involved. It makes you look and sound stupid!!! It doesn't just mess up your thought process, it can affect anything and everything!!!
I know how you feel...I feel that the longer I live with FM, the worse my memory gets. I can't remember little things. I make lists and then I forget where I put the lists. I forget big things too. I got lost going to work one day and had to call and say I would be late (I've worked at the same school for 15 years!) I also forget what I am saying mid - sentence. The kids at work know when I am experiencing a brain fart because I make the universal "I'm lost" sign (twirling my finger around and repeating what I just said) and they try to help me figure out what I was trying to say! I bet when they cut my brain open they will find it looks like a big glob of baby swiss cheese :)
Hello, yes, Fibro fog can be disconcerting and scary. I try really hard to stay in the moment and not let my thoughts wander. This helps some to stay grounded. That said, I still will experience it sometimes and my words get mixed up - I can't find the word to complete the sentence. And I can relate to the 10 minute conversation and not being able to recall it, I experience that. I find that staying well-hydrated helps me. Also, when I experience a moment / minutes when I am feeling foggy, I try to move around a bit, get the blood flowing so to speak. I raise my arms up and down and maybe stomp my feet lightly if I can. I think it does help me get past the worst of the fog most of the times. Hugs.
Hi,
It could be Fibro Fog for you or if you have added a new medication it may be a side effect. For me, that type of experience was from medications, my FIbro fog is standing at a light switch to get water or ice cubes. Hope you are having a clear day. Hugs Madison13
I can relate to what all of you are saying on here. I have had problems with memory and word retrieval for a number of years. Also the same as Dyana, where you suddenly can't remember wg=here you are in a journey. i have also gone completely the wrong way in a familiar journey. This was before my diagnosis for Fibro. As i was going thro' the Menopause I put it down to this. As you get older you get more forgetful anyway, i think. So not yet convinced it is down to Fibro fog - not for me anyway!
