Hi everyone, well I've experienced yet another thing. Last week I was desperate for some help with a spasm I had in my neck, went to the ER they gave me a shot and a muscle relaxer and after 6 hours of having this spasm it finally let go. Well yesterday while driving my daughter to volleyball practice I had what I thought was a stomach ache that quickly turned into a spasm, now I have has spasms in my stomach for years but this was different, this was horrible!! This was in my diaphragm area, it felt like someone or something was squeezing me so tight and I couldn't get enough air in and started sweating. This happened twice until I got to my muscle relaxers and laid down and didn't dare move for about an hour. Can anyone tell me what is happening?
Traci , I know how horrible this is because this exact thing has happened to me daughter several times now, twice it landed her in the ER, finally we figured out that they were spasms, because antispasmodic meds helped the pain… The one she takes now is dicyclamine , she has also taken levsin , but she describes exactly what you have . She has been seeing a GI dr for this and so far not to many answers. She had her gallbladder out prior to theses starting, she does have irritable bowel & horrible reflux and anxiety. Do you suffer any of these ? There could be many causes, we are still trying to figure it out, a barium swallow may give some ans. perhaps food gets lodged in the small bowel after I leves the stomach and it causes spasm in the stomach …
If your not on an antispasmodic ask your dr for one, this is he only thing that helps my daughter ,
Let me know if you figure things out & I will do the same
Hugs

Hi Traci, I have something similar at times but it only occurs once in a while and only lasts from 40-60 min. It is similar to gall bladder attacks that I had before I had my gall bladder out 40+ years ago. I’ve always thought it was because I don’t have a gall bladder and have other GI issues I curl up, hang on to a pillow in front of my diaphragm, try to relax and focus on breathing slowly till it’s gone. I do have IBS. Have you still got a gall bladder and have you had it checked. Really sounds like you should be consulting your doctor, and if he/she can’t help, get referred to a GI Specialist for tests.
Please take care of yourself.
Try looking up pyloric spasm and see if that gives you any information that is related to how you feel. May be something completely different xx
Hi Traci,
IBS is quite common in fibro, so could be this. Just a guess as I have the same problem too. I also get really bad “lady pains” since having fibro.
Has your doctor looked into this? There’s medications to help and/or you may be intolerant to some food that you were fine eating before. These can change quite frequently with fibro.
I do hope you get some relief soon as the pain is quite awful on top of everything else
- It could also be inflammation d/t particular repetitive movements...Costal chondritis is the inflammation of the spaces between the ribs and can mimic signs of a heart attack...unable to take a deep breath, sweating, feeling of pressure, etc.. The treatment is rest, anti-inflammatory medication, and a muscle relaxer like flexoril.
