Low white blood cell count

So my dr just called and it seems that the last blood work I had like 6 weeks ago showed a moderately low white blood cell count and I have to go have more done tomorrow. I did do some research and it seems that several factors can cause this. Just wondering if anyone else with fm has had this occur to them?

Hello Mel,

I don't have fibro but i have Lupus and they have such alot the same in symptoms but you do need to really sort this out with your doctor like "angelonearth" as stated.

There's quite a few issues to causing it:

  • AIDS

  • Aplastic anemia (condition in which the bone marrow makes insufficient blood cells)

  • Bone marrow disease (myelodysplastic syndromes)

  • Chemotherapy

  • Leukemia

  • Liver disease (hepatitis, cirrhosis, and liver failure)

  • Overactive spleen that destroys white blood cells

  • Radiation exposure

  • Rheumatoid arthritis (chronic autoimmune disease characterized by joint inflammation)

  • Systemic lupus erythematosus (disorder in which the body attacks its own healthy cells and tissues)

  • Viral infection that affects bone marrow function

  • Vitamin deficiency

  • Widespread infection that depletes white blood cells

All the best Terri and please update we when you know the course. :)

Hey Mel,

Good to see you again! :-)

Yes, my white blood cell count was a bit low. I never thought too much about it before. Another thing associated with fibro?

Oh Trisha,

Your message nearly broke my heart. What a tough situation to be in. Your health info shouldn't be shared with another person - it's illegal for your doc to do so. And highly punishable. Of course sometimes people get into situations that don't go down the usual path.

If you want to talk to someone please feel free to contact me through this site.

My best to you,

Petunia

Hello Petunia,

Please don't let an issue like this go past because alot of it's always mainly down to anaemia...mine was rock bottom of 8.0 and now i'm having a b12 jab every 3mths besides folic acid.
