Hi everyone. Thanks for all the welcome messages - it’s great to have found such a lovely group! Bit of an intro - I’m 29, but have had fibro diagnosis for 12 years and CFS for many years before that. My problem now is that my body seems to reject most meds. Have tried all kinds of anti-depressants but keep having to be taken off them due to horrific side effects. Same goes for painkillers, antibiotics etc. Changed from Cymbalta to Valdoxan couple of weeks ago and reaction was so bad I nearly called an ambulance! Probably should have - body was convulsing out of control for 8 hours. I live alone so it was pretty scary. Anyone else seem unable to tolerate all meds? Am going back on Zoloft now, but must admit all meds scare me a bit after my experiences…
Carly,
Your bad reactions sound horrifying, to be quite blunt about it! Can you get one of those Lifealert buttons that you wear around your neck and press in case of an emergency? I would think you need something like this if you're going to be on meds, since you live all alone. Either that or if you have a friend, try to work out something so that you will check in with each other at the beginning of each day and the other will call for help if either of you doesn't check in.
In answer to your question, no, I don't have reactions like that although most meds don't seem to work on me at all. They just do nothing whatsoever. Maybe it is sort of the same thing in that fibro people do seem to have odd reactions to meds.
Hoping you stay well!!!
Hugs,
Petunia
Hi Carly, I have to say I never had a reaction to meds until this fibro started, in the past 3 years I am allergic to about 10 meds, and most antibiotics… Like seriously I never had an allergic reaction to anything, until fibro.
Like you, I am terrified to try a new drug, so if & when I do , I make sure some one is with me, I am very sensitive to all pain meds also, but not allergic, just have terrible reactions with nasty side effects.
This is one of those aspects with fibro that truly boggles my brain !!!
Thanks for posting, I’m curious to see how many other have this issue
Hugs & blessings

Hi Carly, I did have a major reaction to Lyrica, and also find that I am quite sensitive to some meds. I am currently trying gabapentin at a very low level which is helping but don’t know what will happen when it is increased. I also take 12.5 amtrypline, but when it was increased to 25 I slept for 18 hours. And even then had a problem waking up. My doctor told me that fibro patients are very sensitive to drugs, odors, noise light etc, and she is very cautious when she prescribes things.
I’m really sorry that you got fibro at such a young age. You need to take care of yourself, and a life line is a great idea. I was fine with Lyrica for six weeks and then it hit, Fortunately I don’t live alone but it would have been scary if I did, and hadn’t figured out what was happening.
Please take the steps to protect yourself so you can get help as soon as you need it.
Stay well, gentle hugs
Hi, YES! I never had reaction to ANY meds until I came down with FIbro. I was put on too many to count and they all did that to me too. I am at a point now when my doc says "hows your pain" and I say "it sucks" and he wants to give me a new script I don't take it. I know exactly how you feel! Have you similar reactions with smells?
