Muscle Stiffness?

I am curious if anyone else experiences the muscle stiffness all day long, not just in the morning. I wake up with it and by the time I get off work I am very very stiff and in pain. Most of what I have read on fibro talks about morning stiffness that gradually subsides.

What do you do to combat the stiffness? I stretch, but it doesn't seem to help. Thanks!

Laurie

Yes, I get that too. Mine lasts all day, and is worse when it rains. It feels like no matter how much I stretch, It just won’t go away. Lyrica helped a lot, and so does walking or water exercise.

I was on flexeril, and didn’t feel like it helped me much, but the things I’ve read say that lots of people have success with it. Another article said that combination therapy had better results, so taking an antidepressant, an anti seizure med and another antidepressant from a different drug class is an example. With that method they recommended lower doses. Anyway, if you’re not getting enough relief from symptoms, go talk to your doc and see if they can try something else.

HI Laurie, yes, I often have stiffness all day, especially in my legs. I try to walk as much as possible. Sometimes I visualize I am on the "taffy puller" from the Willy Wonka movie, it helps a little. I am also taking Flexeril from time to time but it doesn't seem to help me. I am getting ready to ask my doctor for a different muscle relaxer to try. I've also realized that I often tend to sit with my legs under the chair at work (with the muscles more clenched) so I have altered my desk to ensure I have enough room to stretch them out and I also try to elevate them some while sitting. It does seem to help. Hugs!!

My muscle stiffness doesn't go away.I also get joint stiffness.I hope yours gets better

Hi! I haven't had stiffness all day, but will get it for bouts throughout the day, with the morning being the worst for me, where I suffer from stiffness for up to 3 hours. I have recently discovered that if I take my morning pills two to three hours before I get up, waking up is almost enjoyable, lol. Stiffness seems to be not so bad at all. I also do stretching short busrts repeatedly throughout the day, it seems to alleviate the tightness some. I concur that seeking medical advice if these symptoms don't improve might be the next step. I send you many hugs and hope you find some relief very soon.

Hi Laurie, I have muscle stiffness when I wake up. The stiffness gets better when I start moving around. I also get when I am in any position for too long without moving (20-30 minutes), to loosen up my muscles again I stretch them. It seems to be a constant thing, when I watch a movie (at home) I have to get up and stretch. If I lay in bed and read, I have to move my legs frequently so they don't lock up.

May I ask what meds you are taking? Since you started taking them have your symptoms improved?

Hugs, Farida

I have a follow up appointment with my doc ithe first week of November. Right now I am just taking cymbalta. I just started it a few weeks ago. I am finding that some days I am way worse than other days. I haven’t been able to find a way to balance my life yet. I still haven’t quite come to grips with the fact that I may not physically be able to do exactly what I want and I know I push it too hard sometimes. I am sure this contributes to my pain and stiffness.

Hi Laurie B, I am wondering how you are doing? Is the stiffness getting any better? Hugs!
