I haven't been able to be on for a couple of days , My husband was in a rear end car accident a couple of days ago. He was hit at high speed while sitting still at a light . He was taken to the hospital by ambulance and at the time had a severe headache , shoulder injury , upper back pain . They put him on muscle relaxer and a pain medicine .Since then he now has lower back pain coming through the meds and numbness down the leg , and his right wrist is messed up . He's not been able to go back to work and at this point we don't know when or if he will be able to . He is not able to function at all other than to walk a short distance . I am going to have to take him back to the E.R today over the back and wrist . He has become angry and depressed as it is hitting him that none of this is getting any better . He is having trouble sleeping and can only sleep in one position . I need to know from anyone who has been in a rear end wreck how best to help him , and what could lay ahead for him physically . He is 51 and before this he was in perfect health not even on any medicine for any conditions . i have no clue how to handle his moods and his physical issues .
Hugs Suzanne,
I wasn't rear ended but I was hit on the drivers side really hard. I walked away from the accident but I had headaches and I believe that was the beginning of my Fibromyalgia. The only thing that gave me relief was going to a chiropractor. That stopped my headaches and controlled the neck, shoulder and lower back issues. As far as the anger and depression I think that is just a part of the process. When you take a 51 year old healthy man and something happens completely out of his control that now has him in tremendous pain, how do you not be angry and depressed. Hugs to you because not only do you have to deal with your own pain but also help him. Is he going to PT maybe that would help him to find some relief.
Gentle Hugs,
Stacey
Hi Suzanne
Hopefully the ER will do some test and find out where the pain is coming from and can help. Some things do not show up right away and it can take a while to recover from an injury. Please let us no how he is doing.
hi suz. i am very sorry to hear this.i know this whole thing is very hard on both of you on so many levels.he was in the er but has he gone to his regular medical doc as well to see what other specialist he may need for all that is going on with him now? also i hope you have already contacted a lawyer. given all that has happened the lawyer will probably recommend that he be seen by several specialists. My only suggestion for you on how to handle these things that are going on with him is to be as patient as you possibly can . When my husband had knee surgery his mood and his physical aspect of this were difficult for us as well. I think i was more anxious that he was in this condition of not being able to do all that he used to and he struggles with mild depression. Take one day at a time is my best advice and go with the flow as best as possible. I hope this helps you some even though it is not about being in a rear end car wreck. just my personal experience with a husband who was injured. i send you good thoughts for your well being and for your husband that he get effective treatment, heal and recover well.. HUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGS
suzie
I was in a similar accident many years ago. It took about 6 months of pt, muscle relaxers, massage, and neck injections before I healed. Oh, I also used a tens unit for a while that helped. But I did eventually heal and don't have any long term effects from it. I recall that the pain was the worst about 3-5 days after the accident then the slow road to recovery. I hope your husband feels better quickly. Hugs
Hugs and prayers
He went back to the E.R yesterday and after a ct scan and 14 xrays they decided it was really bad muscle strain . And we did get an attorney they are handling all the crap now . it's hard to believe it's just muscle strain . His back and neck pain are bad enough to limit his ability to even move around . he goes to his regular doctor Monday .
Thanks everyone !!! Hugs to all of you
hi suz.. i am glad he got more testing when he went back to the ER.. Muscle strain can be very painful and debilitating.. Proper meds , rest and time is probably what is needed. My daughter sprained her ankle and was so bad she could not walk on it. she went to er also and they said it was a very bad sprain.. I send you positive thoughts for healing and as always HUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGS,
suz ( too) lol
