Numb fingers and feet due to nerve damage?

I do not have this issue. Sausage fingers? It doesn’t turn into anything other than a sausage? Is that a shrek reference? Lol

No, usually mine like to share. If one has it the rest do to - like a classroom full of children.

Yes, usually my middle finger goes full on sausage by itself - with pain. Also, I get itching all the time, hives that come and go all over and general itchy rashes. I use a lot of cortisone cream. If that doesn’t work, an ice bag usually will stop it,

Oh right, like monkey see monkey do!

Ouch, I’ve had that. And I had my big toe go like that. Not funny, and shoes … oweeee.

My advice: take pictures when that kind of thing happens. You never know when that picture will be the final piece in the diagnostic puzzle. Here’s some reading to do about sausage fingers. None of those conditions are any fun. Nope.

I’m not a doctor, but I don’t think sausage fingers is a symptom of fibromyalgia, do you? Nor is persistently itchy skin. Over in the PsA forum (my BF home base), we have quite a lot of people who were initially told that they had fibro, when in fact it was Psoriatic Arthritis. Wht? Mostly because their RA tests came back negative, and sometimes their inflammatory markers did too, The doc just never thought out of the RA box.

I’m no doctor, and I really think that getting a fibro diagnosis shouldn’t be the end of the line, especially if your other symptoms don’t match the typical fibro profile. Or you have additonal things going on. And swollen fingers, crazy itchy skin, “roving” joint swelling etc etc are not typical of Fibro. Every diagnosis is subject to change as new information emerges. Please don’t let your diagnosis stop you or your doctor from considering other possibilities.

I accepted my doc’s assurances that there was nothing wrong with me that couldn’t be cured by diet, exercise and a good pair of shoes. For years I blamed myself for feeling wretched. When I finally got a diagnosis, I already had severe and permanent damage to my feet, and two knee replacements. After, I had a hip replaced too. If only someone had thought out of the box.

Please keep questioning and searching until your diagnosis “feels right” and pretty much explains what you are experiencing. You really owe that to yourself.

And remember: a solid diagnosis (even if it’s a “bad” condition) isn’t the end of the world: it’s the first step to feeling better.

Sermon over.

Big hugs, hang in there,

Yes, I know exactly what you mean, and its called nerve damage. However, don’t think its all about fibro, it could be damaged discs in your spine, or to many tendon “strings” broken. The best thing to do first is to get a MRI of your spine. This means you need a Neurologist. My entire left side of my back is numb, awful pain all the time, but numb skin. Do you take Magnesium?

Oh my goodness I didn’t realize that my severe swelling of my hands, feet ankles and lower legs was something other than a fibro flare. Interesting info. Thank you both for sharing. I’m so sorry for what you’ve both had to experience.

And jgideon, always remember that the right diagnosis, no matter how dreaded the condition, is always better than the wrong diagnosis. And don’t be too quick to accept “fibro” as the end of the road.

Do you have a rheumatologist? That’s who I would be the best person to see.
