Hi I am new here and have a question… Has anyone else been diagnosed with high blood pressure and or Diabetes after being diagnosed with fibro? And I am also Bi-polar/personality disorder. So this last month has been so hard for me mentally trying to deal with the last 2 diagnoses from my doctor. I have been Bi-polar for 10 years so I have a pretty good handle on that. And my doctor refuses to see me any more he is referring me to someone else who has more experience with multiple illnesses. I am just so confused, scared, and feel alone even though my wife is very supported I just don’t like to weigh her down with all my problems. Any suggestions…
I Don’t have any suggestions. But im here if you ever want to talk. I have a anxiety disorder and aslo been seeing a psychologist for years. I recently discovered i had fibro and think many of my problems stem from that. I think mental disorders are some how tied to the fibro.
Teresa I been wondering this myself. My psychologist is the one who actually diagnosed my fibro, I guess because I open to him more then a gm. Thank you for your input.
T, thank you As well I guess my journey will be started all over again when I start to see a new doc.
Hi, I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia , diabetes, HBP, lupus, anxiety, panic attacks, neuropathy , glaucoma , and intestinal problems. It’s very very hard to deal with everything. Surround yourself with good people like all our friends in here , and good family members . Unfortunately other than my spouse, my kids , and my wonderful PCP I don’t have support from my family. All these problems plus financial problems ( one income is not enough to cover all the expenses) every day make me feel more and more like given up. But please don’t let all my problems scare you even more because that’s not my intention at all. I am sure that there there are people in worse situations than me and they don’t give up. At the end of the day God reminds me that tomorrow will be a new day and things will better for all of us. You will be okay. Take care. God bless you.
Sonia
Hello
You are not alone. I think it is good that you are being refered to a doctor with more experience.. Hug your mate. I do not have high blood pressure or diabetes but both run in my family and my doctor keeps a close check on me. I do have asthma and lupus, djd fibro, osteoarthritis ,and a few more. It can be very hard to deal with multiple problems but you have done well with your bi polar and I feel you will be fine. I will be thinking of you.
Sonia I’ll say a prayer for u. You’re not alone. I feel like this often. We will hey through it. Message me any time.
Thank you. Hugs.
Hi Crystal, welcome to the forum. I was diagnosed as a diabetic (I went into my doctor and said I was diabetic, she confirmed it) then diagnosed with high blood pressure and chronic depression before I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and a few other things. I probably had fibro before diabetes but my doctor at that time didn’t believe fibromyalgia existed. There appears to be a lot of forum members that have multiple illnesses. My doctor calls me a complex patient, they also get paid more for treating us in Canada.
If you can get a pretty good handle on bi-polar; I’m confident you can also handle the rest although it will take time for you to find out what works well for you. Don’t be too hard on yourself and remember that high blood pressure and diabetes can be controlled, usually through some life style changes and/or medication. If your doctor is not comfortable in treating all your illnesses it is good that he is referring you to someone that can. Since you’re being referred to a new doctor it would probably be helpful if you get track of your symptoms, pain level and location, nausea etc. triggers if you can identify them (including food environment, anxiety etc) treatments that work, and the impact it is having on your life and the bi-polar. It will be a bit of a balancing act but is essential that you keep the bi-polar and diabetes under control, as well as the other two. You can do this and you will need some support from your wife to get through this.
You can also call on us for support we’ll listen to your vents, concerns and be a sounding board. You are not alone.
Take care, Gentle Hugs
You are not alone!! I don;t have high blood pressure or diabetes, but I do have arthritis, dysthymia, agitated depression, anxiety, allergies to just about everything, IBS....I think most people with Fibro have multiple other illnesses.
It is good your doc is referring you to someone with more experience. You need a doctor who understands (as well as any healthy person can) Fibro and the variety of other illnesses that can accompany it.
I will be keeping you in my prayers.
Gentle hugs, Kimberly :)
I think so too, tho my mental disorders came first.
Thank you for all the input and kind words. I think I finally found a place I belong. I am really hopping to make some friends here. Now if I could just get out of bed and get ready for work ugh…
Yes there are some well documented multi faceted conditions associated with fibro. Pain being the primary symptom, muscle and joint pain, stiffness, acheing is escruceating most people take either opiates, or Lyrica or milder drugs such as panadeine osteo, also some anti-depressents such as Endep, Cymbalta they also help with sleep and depression which are two more facets of Fibro. A lot of people find themselves how it is explained as fibro fog a type of mental impairment wear you are just not thinking as well as you should be. And I feel one of the worst for me is the fatigue which can lead to guilt because you start to feel you are a burden on the ones who you love and rely on the most. Let your wife read and participate on these sites they are here for the carers god bless them all, as it is for the people with the problem it happens to both of you and she has a right to no what to expect educate yourselves together. No matter what the problem is there is always a way to deal with it. I have a GP, a Pain Specialist, and I see a Psychiatrist I see these people as tools and it makes a very complicated puzzle start to fit together you and your partner are in this together you must let her in because you cannot hide your symtoms and without honesty theres no trust and no trust no love I wish you all the best on your jouney and a lot of us have made it through this with our loved ones. Some have not that is up to you and your loved one to decide I hope it all works out for you. Jeannie
Sorry you’re dealing with this- my advice is to seek out a more holistic and/or metobalically driven doctor who will look at all your symptoms and test for things no regular MD would. Maybe th answer for some if not all of us is a combo of lifestyle changes a d supplements to fill in the gaps of what’s missing.
Hi, I have been diagnosed with high blood pressure just recently but have had fibro for 4 years . I have to take more meds on top of what I have to take for fibro. I was dizzy and sick pretty bad before adding the new meds that now I have dizzy spells where I am disoriented . It is very scary and I get embarrassed when this happens. I feel like I am such a burden on my husband and my family . You are never alone you have a lot of support from your friends here and your wife it sounds like.
Hello, Crystal! I’ve been on blood pressure meds since 1990, as a proactive help with my migraines. Tried different ones in later years and my blood pressure skyrocketed. Probably a lot had to do with increased pain levels as the fibro progressed. Saw neurologists who put me on ant-seizure meds that left me a zombie.
Just had a number of tests done to check kidneys and liver because of the BP meds on and my cholesterol level went from 185 last year to 235 and my fasting glucose was 118! I’m not overweight nor do I eat fatty foods and lots of sweets. Doctor thinks it is hereditary or may be high due to the flare I’ve been in for weeks.
So I really can only tell you my experience. Talking to doctors can be so frustrating at times - seeing as you are being sent to a new doctor, I would start writing down questions to take with you at your first appt. I hope this doctor will be a great one and will be able to help you with everything! hugs~ Sandi:)
Try Olmmesartan {Olmetec) It is a BP medication but it has the added benefit of pain relief for fibro, I had to stop taking it because it worked to well for me, and my BP just about bottomed out and I could hardly stand up without passing out worked great for the pain though it is on the PBS so is not to expensive I hope this helps. But it is a great BP medication well worth a try Jeannie Debra good luck Crystal
