Does anyone else have to use a cpap? I really hate it

Hey Jackie51!

I have used a cpap for several years now (4, I think) and, like you, I really hated it in the beginning. However, I talked to a customer service rep at the company who sends my supplies and they recommended a different type of mask and it has made all the difference. My sinuses are not completely stuffed when I get up in the morning and I do seem to get more sleep - always a good thing! When I first started out I had the little mask that just rest under my nose. I was always shifting out of place and I hated it. Now I use one that covers my nose, but not my mouth and it is much better for me. My husband also uses one that covers his nose and mouth and that works best for him.

My mom always laughs about my husband and I getting ready to go to bed at night. I used to love to lay in bed and "spoon" with my husband, but those days are over. Between the 2 cpap machines, my mouth splint so I don't grind my teeth, my husband's ear plugs so that he doesn't hear MY machine over his (HA!) and all the pillows I use to prop up body parts so that I don't stress those muscles as I sleep, we are a real sight. I always think if someone broke in during the night to rob us, if they saw us lying in bed with all these "things" they would feel so bad for us they would just leave. Or laugh. Maybe both.

Anyway, hope that helps you!

patti,

Thank you your description of your night time sleeping just made my day! I could only imagine if my hubby and I both used the machine. My mask covers my nose, and mouth. It made the bridge of my nose very sore, I'm thinking I had the straps to tight. My hubby said I tried several times to get the mask off my face while I was sleepin, he said he told me that I needed it and I would calm down and stop wrestling with it, does yours have a vaporizer on it? If it helps me to feel better I will look likje a space alien. Gentle hugs

Jackie51 -

Yes, my machine has a vaporizer in it. That also helps with the sinuses not getting so stuffed. I am glad my description made you laugh. I was typing that quickly while waiting for my husband to come downstairs to go out to lunch. As we walked out to the car, I was telling him what I had written and he couldn't believe that I would tell someone that! LOL! I told him that was the great thing about this site is that we can share with each other to help with a question and not be embarrassed because we aren't exactly going to run into each other in the grocery store or anything. He just shook his head and smiled. Even after almost 38 years of marriage (next month) I can still shock/surprise him and I love that.

Hope you are having a good day. Patti
