I went to the ER on 7/1 at 10:30pm with severe chest pain right between by breast and a little to the right. I was given 2 nirtos that did not touch it, then a GI cocktail and again did not touch the pain and finally was admitted to a room and given morphine and still no relief. I was awake all night with this pain that would not go away. By 6:30 am it just stopped so I got up and brushed my teeth and noticed pain starting a little. So they did a heart cath and it was fine. I had 3 rounds of blood draws and 3 EKGs. After all was done and I was back to my room the pain was gone. I was given versed, Phenergan and Demerol for procedure. I was seen by the hospitalist and the heart Dr. They discharged me and I came home. Im confused. They found that my heart was not the problem and sent me home, so what caused the debilitating, non relenting pain that I suffered for 8 straight hours. My intuition tells me it was probably my gallbladder. I guess I will read up on that and figure out what I need to do for it. I just don't know what caused the pain. So confused.
I hate when hospitals do that…
They waste hours trying to figure it out, waste your money and then say it’s not in there field and discharge… They don’t even send a doctor who they think might know the answer! I’ve experienced that drama before. Unsure if it’s gallbladder but I hope it doesn’t come back!
hi debra. i can relate and feel your pain and confusion.once i was in the ER, they thought i was having an appendicitis attack but were not SURE. they kept me ready for surgery( no food or drink--on an iv only). they did more tests checking , shaking thier heads.. finally all my vital signs suddenly became normal after 2 days.. when the doc came to discharge me i asked him what did they think happened to me and all he could say was perhaps the flu. sheesh. anyway just so you know i dont have fm as my first and main illness. i have a severe case of ( CFIDS) chronic fatigue immune dysfunction syndrome ( also known as CFS and ME)....many of these illnesses seem to have alot of the confusing symptoms.. its a bummer indeed. I will keep good thoughts and prayers for you that you dont go through such an awful experience again. If you follow through and try to find out what it is i hope you find some effective treatment. all the best. hugggggggggggggggggggggs , suzie
Well, no pain since hospital stay. Sure hope it doesn't come back. Nice to know once again I'm not alone. Thanks again for the support from all of you.
Ask your Doctor if it could have been Costochondritis. It is inflamation on or near the cartalige where the upper ribs connects to the breastbone. I think I got that correctly. You can check WebMD to see for yourself.
Thanks. I will look it up.

Wow. I'm fairly new to FM and seeing that this is another part of fibro just leaves me bumfuzzled. I really did feel like I might die and was sooooo scared. I wish for all of us a speedy cure to this crazy disease. In the meantime wishing that we all find a way to live life to it fullest as best we can.
I was diagnosed with fibro 7 yrs ago…but I think I have prob had it 25 yrs…i started having chest pain a few yrs ago…all over chest pain all drs says its my fibro…then 2 months ago I got severe chest pain in the same spot u talk about…i was in walmart with daughtet & grandson I then hit the floor…not speaking well confused & finally went out 4 a few mins…daughter called ambulance went 2 er they did nothing ekg…blood test 4 heart…no meds sent me home…i have had prob 4 more episodes since then…dont know what is going on
Oh yeah…went 2 my family dr after er he was sure it was my gallbladder…it is not
I hope you never experience that pain again. Hopefully it was just fibro and nothing else. Keep us updated. Gallbladder is nothing to mess with, need to get that checked out if that is what you think it is. Maybe first of week you need to make appointment with your regular doctor who knows more of your history. Keep us posted, we are all here for you.
It could be costochondritis. It is awfully painful.
There are many discussions on boards here on it. Inflammation of breastbone. Feels like a heart attack. Lessening stress helped me calm mine.
Good luck and feel better.

The Dr who diagnosed me just up and quit and told no one where to find him :/ Will have to find another Dr. Im trying to get insurance and if I do I will try to see my moms Rheumatoid Dr. After seeing others post it could be another fibro symptom. I will follow up with clinic and see if they will check my gallbladder. Thanks so much.
I will try to find the discussion board and see if it fits. Thanks.
I have had several bouts of chest pains and had a full cardiac work up last year and my heart is fine. When I diagnosed with fibromyalgia two months ago I did a lot of research and chest pains is a symptom of fibromyalgia. I hope this helps.
Yes, I think you may be right. I am relieved my heart is good.
Hi Debra,
Well, I'm not a doctor and don't know medical stuff but I have two possible suggestions: costochondritis or else perhaps the MS hug? Gallbladder is another good suggestion - I've heard the pain with it is off the charts.
I'm really sorry that you felt so awful! And ended up in the hospital with no results and no conclusions of a DX. Welcome to the world of fibro, sigh.
If you haven't been to see a rheumatologist and checked for auto-immune diseases, that would be my first suggestion, followed up with seeing your regular doctor to find out if it's your gallbladder. If it's costochondritis, well, that's just one of those ugly things that occur with fibro. I do find that Lyrica helps to control mine. Again, time to see your GP and get some answers from him/her.
Hugs (not the MS kind!)

Yes, please keep me posted. Hopefully will have insurance soon and will get further testing.
I think the thing that is most confusing is how it came on so quickly and after 8 hours just went away. Though maybe could've been a gallbladder stone either made its way through or backed up and will come down and cause pain again :/
That's if it was a gallstone. Nothing seems to fit these symptoms. I have been looking at everything you all have suggested and nothing really matches. Maybe I can get some tsts done soon and rule out more things. Seems like that's about all we can do is rule out...........never a conclusive diagnosis. Oh well, guess that's fibro for ya.
I have realized I have had vague, uncomfortable aches in my ribs under my right breast off and on for some time. Having it again now, that's what made me remember. It usually happens when I sit for some time. I wonder if it is related to the severe pain I had last week. Not quite the same spot. Hmmmm, guess we have to be our own detectives to try to get to the bottom of this stuff.
I need to start writing it down seeing as how I forget stuff so easily. That way I can let Dr know when I go next time.
