I now have very sore foot pads from the last round of fibro flare. It has been going on for 6 months. Is there anything that can be done for this other than wearing cushiony shoes for the rest of my life? It is probably THE MOST debilitating effect of my fibro. I cannot stand in one place for more than 5 minutes or be on my feet even in cushiony shoes for more than 30 minutes.
Please any suggestions?
Laurie
Possibly orthotics would be of help to you, although even with mine I cannot stand in one place for very long or be on my feet for much time.
I honestly can't think of anything else, Laurie. I've not been able to conquer this symptom myself.
Laurie, have you had your feet checked by a podiatrist? It sounds more like plantar fasciitis rather than just fibro pain. Does it feel better when you have high arch shoes on? Anyways stretch your calf muscles and it will start helping.
Your PCP can refer you if your insurance covers them. If not going to a retail location that has the Dr Scholl foot mapper would be another option. I have had good results soaking my feet for at least 20 minutes a day in Epsom salts. Some of the reading I have done suggests that many people with fibromaylgia may benefit from increasing their levels of magnesium. Magnesium can be taken orally or absorbed through the skin, which is how Epsom salts works.
I tried wearing plantar fascitis inserts that rheumie recommended and they killed me! They were German and very expensive. I have decided to try the stretching, epsom salt and also go to foot doctor. Thank you so much everyone here for your help. It's so good to have others who share in and understand this crazy disorder- it's unfortunate we are suffering, but good we're here for each other.

Laurie,
My first foot doctor put me into a hard insert that felt good for a while then ended up killing my foot after several months. My second foot doctor put me into a custom made soft one that feels like foam and it works great. So different inserts can feel different on your feet. And mine were custom made to my feet, with the makers of it actually making a mold, based upon a cast they made of my feet.
