Ok , over the years we have had to change how we do things and how we manage life . It's time to clear the fog and think :) What are your tips and short cuts to mange your life , your home , cooking , going out , comfort to reduce pain . Any thing . This will help newly diagnosed members and give all of us ideas we didn't think of . I will start adding mine as others are added , I have a bunch .
one of my motto's is this, "I do what i can ,when i can and when i can't i dont." i dont suffer with any guilt or negative feelings because i think it is a waste of energy. But i dont suffer with depression so that may be easy for me to say and i surely do not want to be unkind or uncaring to those who do. I know it is a very difficult thing to live with. My daughter has lived with depressive illness since she was a teenager( she is now an adult) and i would never make light of that condition by no means .
As far as cooking I like to do it in stages. It makes it easier for me. Like, I may take out the pots or pans i need and have that ready. Later I may wash what ever veggies i will use . Another time i may set up the table. In between i will lie down. Stuff like that is helpful for me and i dont feel so overwhelmed with the tasks. I may also cook at times to have some leftovers.

Thanks, Suzanne, for starting this discussion, its a great idea. My niece and I both deal with fibro and I have been trying to think of daily things I do to try to help her out. A couple suggestions I can share are helpful for me while working in the kitchen. When I am standing at a counter working I have learned to lean against the counter and let the counter help by taking some of my weight instead of my back, legs and feet doing all the work to support my body. Along this same line, if you don't have a tall stool that you can sit to wash dishes or work at the counter it helps me to take a regular kitchen chair and pull it along side me so that I can but my bent leg on it allowing one leg at a time to get a break. Both of these small alterations I find help some.
I look forward to hearing tips from others to help out in our every day lives.
- Suzanne, this is a great idea. I too make my self get out of bed every day. I get dresses probably 98percent of the time. I take my medicine then I lay on the sofa until pain meds kick in. That takes awhile most days. Then I
- Also have a high stool that I sit anytime I am doing anything in the kitchen. Last but not least, I keep pretty busy.
- I don't know why the numbers are numbering my list!
To save myself embarrassing moments I open drinks and stuff before going out so if my child asks me for a drink I just open it, not struggle in front of people as people look at me odd if I can’t open something (fruit shoots are the worse) or if I buy one out I will keep my hands full and ask the person who served me to open it.
Also no matter what the weather I wear slipper socks as it is extra padding on my feet.
I started with the bed , soft everything including the mattress pad is quilted . My bed is a marshmallow lol . in the bedroom no electronics , I have sound and light blocked to give my brain a break. Also It's my haven from life and any problems . I don't allow my self to think about life while going to sleep . I concentrate on comfort and the softness of the bed to get to sleep .
I also keep soft throws on the couch, love seat and even the computer chair . My house is cozy and has been since I was diagnosed many years ago . When that happened and I realized I had to change things I simplified everything and got rid of a lot. I can't stand clutter now , I purged til everything had a place and I could have peace of mind from less to clean and look around and see space and order . And I now , many years later don't bring anything new into my house unless it has a place or something is leaving to make one .
