Undiagnosed UTI caused Flare for 1 month

Hello,

I have recently posted on this website about the horrible flare I have been having for over a month. I was diagnosed with an undetected UTI on Thursday 10/30/2014 in the ER. I had to go Urgent Care on Monday 11/3/2014 because the UTI developed into a kidney infection because the antibiotics prescribed were not effective. I am now on new antibiotic and have been since Monday. My flare is gone. I had no idea that I had a UTI and that is unusual because I usually know if I have one. I have had the UTI for a while now without knowing it. The UTI was causing my flare. My body was constantly hurting, I was extremely tired and my Fibro symptoms were unreal! Little did I know, my body was fighting a massive infection. I feel remarkably better since I started the correct antibiotic.

Just wanted to share and I'm glad I was able to seek medical help to remedy this situation. I have no doubt that I will have flares in the future, but they will be "typical" flares (for lack of a better word) and will not be a month long downward spiral of the worst flare symptoms ever.

Sara

Hello Sara,

Sorry to hear you have suffered for so long, but glad you have found out what it is. UTIsare not always recognised straight away and can cause multiple symptoms. I was taught this when I was a carer, lokking after older people. Hope you continue to get better.

Take care, Anne

Thanks Anne : ) It is so frustrating to me that I had a flare for a whole month, and little did I know it, something bigger was causing it. I am so grateful now that I have the remedy for the ailment, but the last month of my life was pure torture it feels like. Next time, if I have a flare for longer than 1-2 weeks, I will know that it might be something else that is causing my symptoms to be out of control. I wish I knew sooner so I could have prevented it, but I'm glad I know now and am feeling better.

Thanks for the well wishes,

Sara

i can empathize. was incredibly ill, fibro symptoms intensified and discovered i had an oral infection. feeling better relatively speaking, ie not feeling on the verge of dying!

take care

Hi Sara

I am glad you are better. It is always better to seek medical help in case it is something contributing to the fibro pain.

Glad you are on the mend!

Thanks Hilary, I do feel a lot better now. I felt like I was on the verge of a breakdown because I felt so crappy every, single day. Now I feel "back to normal", whatever that means ; ) but I'm definitely grateful for it.
