Hi everyone, thanks again, for all your wonderful support! I need some answers to this. Sometimes I take an afternoon nap - because I am so tired. Why is it that most of the time I have very little pain when taking the nap?? However, when nighttime comes, my body just hurts so bad that I can't find a comfortable position to sleep in. Laurie
Same here Laurie. Pain, fever etc. all get worse at night for some reason. I remember when My kids were sick, they would seem like they were getting better then nighttime would come fever would shoot up, pain from ear infection (example) would come back. Don't know why but it does happen. Sorry I can't help, my only solution is to sleep in the lazy-boy. Hope you get a good sleep soon, Charlie :)
Hi Charlie - you are so right in saying that everything seems to get worse at night. I do remember when my 2 kids were little and they would be okay during the day and then not feel too well at night. I even asked my Dad (he was a doctor) why this is so, and even HE couldn't come up with an answer! LOL Thanks for your input!! Hug! Laurie
Where do you take a nao in the afternoon? Remember the scientific method fro high school? Try to list all of the things that are different when you take an afternoon nap compared to going to bed at night.
I suspect that the moon and its effects on tides play some part in this, Laurie. Think about it, the moon does affect the tides, and much of our body is made up of water and liquid. Plus, I worked at a nursing home and it was well known that the patients went "loony" during a full moon. We may not want to admit it but our bodies are influenced by nature. And you will notice that like our fibro, illnesses make us feel worse in the early morning and early evening.
I'm like you, nap times can be some of the best source of sleep for me, due to the pain issue. And btw, this is a great topic of discussion.
Hi Petunia - You might be right about effects of the moon. You never know! For years and years people have talked about there being a full moon and people acting up. I hope I don't turn into the Werewolf!!! LOL Seriously, I so appreciate your feedback Petunia. I have gotten such great answers to what I am going through and I really take it all to heart!! People here have been just wonderful to me and I told another woman on this site, I have something to wake up to in the morning, and that is getting to the website and and feeling a lot better as the day goes on. Love, Laurie
A doctor told me once that it was the moon. My kids always were worse at night. I sleep better when I nap in the afternoon. I seem to sleep deeper, and feel more rested.
Hi Sue - I agree. I do sleep better when I take a nap. I sure wish I could do this at night though! When I am in pain at night, the hours seem to go by slowly for me. I just can't find a good position to sleep in! This has been going on for 30 years with me. Finally I just give up and get out of bed. I am an avid book lover, so at least I have something to do on those painful nights. But sometimes I am just too sore and irritated to read. I can't concentrate.Laurie
well i have no answers but maybe a reason why. i too have the same problem. my reasoning behind it is this: the more we do through out the day the more pain we will be come bed time. so if u take a nap during the day you r resting before the true pain of the day hits u. this is not founded but its what i have thought of. some naps for me can last 5 hours of more due to the fact i didnt sleep the night before due to pain.
i got my days and nights mixed up a few monthes ago it was bad. the thing i liked was that no one was awake when i was excert other fibro people. since my depression was prettty bad at that time i loved that i didnt have to deal with anyone. i was going to bed as they were getting up and waking up as they we gooing to bed. i seemed to sleep really well doing that not sure why.
Laurie,
That makes my heart sing to hear. So glad that you're finding some benefit from this site. I think just learning that it's okay to believe yourself finally is what sets most of us free.
Hi Eyeore - I take long naps to, especially if I am really tired and sore. One time I laid down for a nap and didn't wake up till the following morning! My body was really exhausted the day before. It's about 4am now, and I couldn't stay in bed anymore as I am too sore. Your theory about taking naps makes sense! Well, I think I am up for the day. It's going to be a long one! Laurie
The same happens for me. One of my issues though is my IC acts like a timer; I only get to sleep for a few hours at a time before my bladder wakes me up. But I have noticed I seem to sleep deeper during my daily 2-3 hour naps than I do at night.
I also wonder about the moon. I'm a night person, I get most of my energy after the sun goes down, so sometimes I wonder if I'm just not programmed to sleep well at night. Unfortunetly, at night is when all of my joints get super angry, so sometimes I can't help but lay there in bed where it's warm.
