I have had a difficult time standing at work for the past few weeks. Standing is considered an essential function of my job, even though there is no reason why it should be. I asked my manager what I could do in this situation and received this response:
It is up to you about what you can do. I can keep you at just 1 day a week if that is enough for you. You can voluntarily resign so that way you are eligible for rehire. It is entirely up to you. But at 1 day a week we need for you to be here for the whole shift.
Let me know what ever you want to do.
Thank you,
So, I can:
1.) Work one day a week, getting as little as I'm getting now
I am wondering if your job may have to make accommodations for you…
Here is an excerpt I thought may be of help to you in particular:
“If you are not sure what type of accommodations you are entitled to or how to ask for them, contact the Job Accommodation Network (800-526-7234), a service provided by the federal Department of Labor. In general, the network recommends that you put your request to your employer in writing. If you work in a small, informal setting, that may not be necessary.”
Good luck and let us know how things turn out for you!
i wish i had some words of wisdom for you but, alas i dont. i have not been in the work force for 29 years and i dont know what is the right thing in these cases. but what i can do for you is to hope you are able to make the best decision for you that will work for in your best interest
Sorry, I work as a sample lady at the local Sam's Club because I like regular pay checks.
There was some initial confusion, but things seem to have settled down. I know have the forms needed to request accommodations. I just need to fill them out an send them in.
I wish I never had told my last employer I had Fibro because I believe that is why I had to leave besides getting written up about 5 times. I was suppose to be responsible for a pharmacist because I accidentally typed the prescription wrong and he was new so it was my job to make sure he didn't make a mistake. What a joke, don't have a illness at a job because you will loose your job eventually. At least that is what I feel!
LucyRed,
I wouldn’t tell my employer I was sick, but because of my illness (FM and CFS) I wasn’t capable of the work I was able to do before. This illness is certainly progressive. I got fired because it affected my job performance. I’m on SSDI now. You can’t win with this illness. Maybe you should resign and look for a sit down job. Good luck!
I believe FMLA offers unpaid leave of up to twelve weeks, and I can barely afford things as it is right now. I'm going to leave human resources out as much as possible. I've had a really bad experience with this company's HR department in the past.
