I am having such a hard time at work. I have a desk job which I love. I just have such a hard time sitting there because of the pain. I get up and move around constantly. Plus my carpal tunnel is in full effect. I am looking for any suggestions or ideas on how I can make it through the day.
Hi Rachel,
I am sorry for what you are going thru. I bought a gel cushion at Bed Bath and Beyond to sit on when I have to sit for long periods of time. That might help you also.
Good Luck. I hope it works for you.

Hello, I am not 100% sure I have carpal tunnel, but my wrists do hurt a lot, and hinder my ability to use my smart phone, iPad, and laptop. I have found that if I absolutely have to type or so forth, I put on my wrist supports that wrap around my wrist to steady them. I found them at Walmart, and even in my grocery store, and they are pretty cheap. Is there a lot of typing involved? Perhaps your employer would consider letting you use a dictation software/app to help you out, and give you relief. They may need a doctor note to be compelled to make that adjustment, but if it helps…
I wish you luck. Hugs.
Heather
Hello Rachel,
You have already received some good advice from Jackie and Meow. Just wanted to ask about your carpal tunnel. I had it many years ago and a small operation sorted it out. My daughter-in-law has recently had operations on both hands, and it is completely cured also. Are you able to have this done? I am in UK, so it might be different where you are. But it is well worth getting it sorted if you can. Good luck
Take care, Anne
Hi, Rachel. I am sorry you are having such a rough time at work with pain. How long have you had this job? Do you have health insurance & paid sick days? It sounds like you may have to get that carpel tunnel surgery soon.
I work at a job that requires a lot of sitting; I have osteoarthritis & DDD. I had back surgery due to a blown out disc. I was off work for 8 weeks. Upon my return to work, my employer modified my work station so that I can equally access my work station whether I choose to sit or stand. I love it! There are many days that I choose to stand due to the pain in my back & hips.
I hope you can get the surgery/treatment that you need to feel better soon! HUGS from Deb
Rachel,
Hello I had carpel tunnel is both wrist i had to have the surgery because the pain alone was to much to bare with having Fibro. I eventually had to take time off due to being in so much pain. I am not sure what state you live in but if you go to the American with disabilities act they have a list of things to suggest to your employer to make your job easier also you can apply for FMLA if you have been at your job for over a year. Your doctor can put in there for you to take extra breaks etc. Take a look at it . I am now going back to work with what i need to do my job better hope that helps ..
I"m pretty new to the forum and I'm not sure what to recommend. I just wanted to share that I, too, am having a hard time at work. My issue is the fatigue. I do alot of work at a desk but I also have to do visits w/ families outside the office mostly in their homes. I hope you can find what works for you. I know I saw a thread from someone who made a Fibro kit to get through their day. Maybe you can look at that, too. I just wanted to say hi & send my support your way.
Right there with you Rachel. I work a nine hour a day job sitting at a computer answering phones and typing on a computer nonstop entering orders. I’m not able to get up much since I’m commission only and a missed call means missed money. Halfway into my day I’m in so much pain it is very hard to hide. Then I get the endless questions. Are you ok?What’s wrong? I get up and stand for a few minutes. But not for long because the bending hurts as well. If you find out anything that helps you deal, please let me know.
Hi, Rachel.
I’m sorry for your troubles at work.
Does your employer allow for ergonomic review of your workstation? It’s an assessment to see if your monitor, chair and desk are aligned for proper posture, etc. I had this done and it helped tremendously. I got a new chair, a trackball mouse and a monitor riser and under desk keyboard. I was having shoulder and wrist problems before the assessment. The trackball mouse and under desk keyboard were the most help to me. I am doing so much better now. Your employer and HR should be able to assist in the process. There are also many tools for self-assessment online. I also find it helps me to take as many breaks from the desk as I can. I stretch, walk around, drink water and let my eyes rest.
There are also wrist supports you can wear at work to alleviate wrist pain.
Good luck and I hope you find some relief!
Hugs,
Laurie
