Does anyone else experience "worsening" of their pain when taking a narcotic?

Thanks Renie for this info … It’s so scary to think that Narcs can possibly make our pain worse, Since the study came out showing the difference in our brain on an MRI, I just keep wondering what can be causing this … But at least they are believing that this is real … & not just in our head … Kinda metaphoric

Hugs & blessings

Hi Renie,

Good article! How do you feel about this? Well, you have trouble taking narcotics, so you may agree. I think it may be true for some people, depending on the cause of their fibro, as for me, narcotics sure help my arthritic bones!

Hope you are having a good day with your back, and can soon find some lasting relief!

Love and hugs,

SK

I always chalked it up to my allergic/adverse reactions to narcotics... even as a child, I couldn't take cough medicine with codeine because I would throw up NON-STOP for hours. As I got older, I realized that when I did try pain medicine, along with the GI problems, my pain got so much worse, it was never worth it. I even chose Tylenol and Motrin over everything else they offered me after I had surgery to repair shattered bones in my leg.

Sometimes the nurses/doctors look at me weird when I say the pain gets worse with meds, it's nice to know it could be fibro, it's a little validation that I'm NOT crazy !!

Hey girlfriend!

I cannot take the codeine either, and have to take phenergan before the morphine, so there are problems, I wonder how long the liver will be liking all these meds too.

As for me, as you know, I totally admit to being CRAZY, NUTS, OUT OF MY MIND, just about anything short of insane fits!

There are Physicians who believe that narcotics make everything dealing with pain worse, I am not there yet, but if I got as sick as you do, I would not want it either! I do hope that you can soon try the Nucynta and it helps you. I've heard so many good things about it for nerve pain, have not heard much about it for joint and bone pain but am all ears!

So good to have you back with us! We missed you terribly, especailly ME!

Love ya girl,

SK

I have been saying that for a while. I know I just do not feel pain "normal" Sometimes just putting my foot on the floor makes me want to drop to the ground, even though I just walked a distance with no problems at all.

I have noticed that most pain killers just make me not care about the pain, but I still feel it.
