Hi everyone! I’m new to the group and have a question. Is anyone out there a working nurse suffering from fibromyalgia while they practice? I’m a middle-aged nursing student and finding that my clinicals are very difficult due to the pain and stress of fibromyalgia. Would love to hear how others handle the pain and symptoms while providing care for others. Thanks and I look forward to being a part of this group.
I should add that fibro fog is certainly not helping my studies. Is anyone else a student experiencing difficulty memorizing and learning new things?
I’m not a nurse, but I am a PCS worker (personal care services).
My clients are either mentally disabled or physically. It can be very hard on the body.
I wish there was an easy answer.
Some days are easier than others.
I have a script for lidacaine cream. That stuff works wonders. I have also bought happyfeet insoles. They are $40.00 and last 4 years or longer. Those insoles have saved me from burning pain. I highly recommend them. The wedsite is happyfeet.com.
My pain doc has me on gabapentin and tramadol for day use. They do help. I hope I gave you some info you wanted.
I understand your pain and would love to have a miracle answer.
I think we all just keep on going day to day or hour to hour.

Hi Amy
I am a nurse and I worked 13 years in a hospital and before that a nursing home and home health. The last 6 months I worked it was in a drug and ETHOL unit and I loved it. I also have lupus and arthritis so my doctor took me out in July. Try your best to get a job and a schedule you can manage. I tried to stay on a diet and exercise program and it was great for many years. My husband and mother in law were both on hospice and died a month apart I worked the first year they wore sick and at home then came out the last 6 months they died a month apart. I think the stress and working over time because I knew I would be out for months with them. The lupus attacked my kidneys and lungs. I would not trade my nursing career for any thing. Rest eat right and exercise. Remember their are other nursing jobs out their. I have a friend who works from home for an insurance company. Let me know how you do.
Thanks, Tina. I can tell from my clinical rotations as a 53 yo student that making my nursing dream come true will not be easy!!
