Chiropractor?

Anyone try a chiropractor? I have been seeing one for about a month and honestly can't decide if it helps or hurts.

I have mixed feelings about D.C.'s so no I’ve never tried them

I have it did more harm then good. .I was exhausted after every appointment. .I did do lumbar injections. …it’s the only thing that takes the edge off the pain along with medication

I went to a chiropractor for a few years. It really helped me, but the problem was that I’d be out of alignment only a few days later. So, he wanted me to come in every week, and I just couldn’t afford the cost. I now try to get a hot stone massage as often as I can manage, but that, too, is expensive. I hear that some health insurance plans will cover it if you can manage to get your doctor to certify that you need this.

I think that chiropractic treatment was the last straw for me in that it is what caused fibro to become full-blown for me. While I was moving in the direction of fibro before the adjustments, I did not meet the criteria for diagnosis until immediately after. My neck also got injured with an adjustment and over 2 years later I still have neck pain. I know every one's body is different. My body/nervous system registers even gentle adjustments as trauma and my muscles tighten up like crazy to try to stabilize my spine because it detects danger. I always hurt really bad after adjustments. I know some people swear by it but for me it caused a cascade of severe health problems.

Hi, you are going to think I am nuts. I have been seeing different chiropractors for about 30 years (way before fibro diagnosis). Apparently they don't help a whole heck of a lot, haha. I do feel better for a few days then I am right back to where I started. I cannot for the life of me keep an adjustment. I was doing good the last couple of years and only going about once a month, but since February of this year have been going weekly, then switched to PT (which made it worse). I am going to see an alternative family practioner and osteopath on Wednesday, so I am hoping he can give me exercises to keep my back in better alignment.

I see a physical massage therapist and it helps mr. The chiropractor procedure caused flair ups.

No and I won't...... Just one more cost to add to the list of expenses. I have been before but I know that it isn't my answer..... But I have been using essential oils and seeing almost miraculous results.....
Seriously... I wouldn't believe it if I hadnt tried it myself..... !

Don't do it! I went to a chiropractor recently hoping it would ease my neck, back, and hip pain. The adjustments were painful but I continued with the "treatment" until I was in so much pain I could barely walk. It resulted in a huge flare that lasted a long while. I also felt that the chiropractor was only in it for the money. He would spend a couple of minutes adjusting me and then would hurry out of the room on to the next patient. Further,he constantly badgered me to sign up for a year-long program which in my opinion is very unprofessional.

Currently I see a physical therapist and my pain level has decreased by 85-90%! I am now able to go for walks on beach or bike ride with my daughter as long as I don't overdo it.

That was the first thing I thought of when I saw this post on chiropractors. I am very sensitive to everything and I have to be touched softly and gently. I have had treatments in the past for my back. I don’t know if they helped or not. That would be very uncomfortable in my situation now, that’s for sure.

I realize there are people in here that will not agree with me an my comment. Chiropractors aren't medical professionals and should never be consulted. I have done some pretty extensive looking into Chiropractic so called science. My conclusion is that it is nothing more than pseudoscience. It is not accepted by the vast majority of the Scientific Medical community. All I have to say is this. Do not listen to testimonials by people who have gone, it is there own opinions. Just as my outlook is my opinion. Do the research YOURSELF first. Then make your own decision as to whether you think going is worth it.

Thanks for your thoughts

wow I can't believe the negative feed back on chiroprators. I go once a month and can feel when I'm severly out as I feel "sick". I don't take the fibro "meds" though, I tried and the side effects were terrible. So I go to the chiropractor, spin class, no caffiene, and I do take a 50 mg tramadol a day and drink a nutribullet shake a day. This is how I have been coping for around 5 years now.

Update- so after about two months I stopped the chiropractor. It caused more pain than it relieved.

Hi Sam, and welcome!

Yes, I did go to a chiropractor for quite a few sessions but it never did me one iota of good. I have read of others on here who swear by them but do consider this: they do not attend medical school, what they do is not backed up by science, and although the risk is small, you can have a stroke as a result of their manipulations. I personally think you might be better off with a good (and emphasis on the word good) pain doctor. Mine has helped me some with my pain and has even discovered that the pain in my back and SI joint is from osteo arthritis.) And as a result, he aims treatment to the back and it does help some.

Okay, that's my two cents on the subject, now it's someone else's turn to give you their two cents for the subject, lol!

Oops, just read your update. Well, I am sorry to hear that it didn't work. It seems to arbitrarily work for some and not others. Personally, I think that mine didn't work because my chiropractor told me to call him Doctor Dan, and talked to me in a fake cheery voice like I was a little kid. I thought that was a little weird and a little creepy. Like something you'd find from a doctor who works from a seedy strip mall (a strip mall is one of those little strips of stores clumped together with other little stores, like Moe's Pawn Shop and Shemp's Seven Eleven. Oh, and Larry's Discount Optical warehouse along with Curly's Helmut World.)
