I had to quit working May 2011 and I won disability in October 2012. I love traveling and before I had to quit working I used to take at least one trip each year with my brother and Mother. I have the opportunity to try a business where I could book travel for myself and others and also have a website where people could book travel. I would make a commision off of this. I am wondering how this would effect my disability since I rely on these payments to live. Does anyone have any experience with this. I am nervous about taking the plunge after it took so long to win my disability.
Hi,
I used to love to travel also. I still love to travel, it is just harder now. I have to have a wheelchair from start to finish. I took my own wheelchair on one trip and the armrest got broken. I have a walker with a seat on it and it has gotten so abused because I take it with me a lot when I travel.
But back to what you are asking. I do not know if it varies by state or not, but I know here in Arizona, you can make some money while you are on disability and it will not affect your disability. I have heard it is somewhere around $14,000 per year. You can call your social security office and ask them. They could tell you. Sounds like a cool business opp. Good luck to you!
Thanks. We went to Israel and Jordan last summer with a group from church. It was a great trip, but sometimes very difficult. I am able to get around with the use of a cane, but sometimes my pain would just get so bad. The lady that is offering me this opportunity made all of our travel arrangements for this trip and traveled with us. It was a very memorable trip.
I think this sounds like a great opportunity for you, I was told here in NY, that you can earn extra money, you just can’t go over a certain amount, for example… You take what you get from SSDI and subtract that from what you made in a month working and you can earn the difference, you can not go over what ever you made working ( ex. if you made $2,000 a month and now you get $1,500 ) you can make $500. A month . To be sure I would ask, I think it may be different from state to state… And depending on your award and situation… Best to clarify & to be safe
Good travels
Hugs

My trip to Israel a few years ago was my last big trip. A life changing trip, I must say!
