Do any of you feel noise as pain?

I can't stand being around a concentration of people talking when I'm in flare up mode. It's painful and I become very irritable, as I did yesterday at my mother's for Thanksgiving. I've had a bad flare up for a couple of weeks, but I had to attend, since I organized the dinner and I was bringing food and silverware. I started relaxing only after most everyone had left.

Hi MaryTX, yes, I can relate to this. Especially when I am tired, noise can make me very irritable and it can seem like it causes pain. I have been working on recognizing this early on and am doing better with trying to move to a quieter environment. I also wear headphones at times, I put a soothing low tone music on and focus on listening to that instead of the noise (if I am unable to move or quiet the environment). I will wear the headphones in the store as well if needed. I also try to plan shopping trips for times when it will be less crowded and/or when I am not really tired. With holiday gatherings it can be challenging. Yesterday when the noise level was a bit high for me I stepped outside for a bit which helped. When I am tired, light can have the same effect. Hugs!!

Yes. I totally relate. The worst for me is when my dog barks. It literally hurts me and makes me very angry. Kids screaming. Noises at my sons basketball games. I’ve not been able to avoid these situations.

i dont like lots of stimulation especially at one time, being noise, colors, movement . I can not have a conversation if the tv is going. It becomes a blur.I dont drive either because of being so ill, lack of coordination, seizures and the lights and the movements. noise is certainly a thing up on that list i have trouble wiht. HUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGS

Thank you all for sharing - I thought I was losing my mind. I love the headphone / earphone / music idea. I'll also buy foam ear plugs to use for gatherings. :-) Thanks for the solution, AuburnM!

Hello Mary,

Yes I do find noise a problem. Mind you I did put that down to losing my hearing in my old age! When lots of people are talking I just give up trying to hear anyone. I often miss the beginning and end of what people say, and only hear the middle. I do think this condition makes me less tolerant, and I am trying to recognise that. For instance, at my grandaughters birthday party last week one of my grandsons decided to blow a whistle, continuously forever! I thought I would explode! Sadly I do not enjoy these get togethers like I used to.

Take care, Anne

Hi Marytx Like you I cant stand loud noise especially if I am at a coffee shop. I am not deaf but just concentrating on what people say is hard enough. I despise the tv being on while I am talking but my partner tries to do itall the time. I have become misstress of the remote control. Alsodoes anybody sometimes think they are almost a nuisance to their partner hubby etc cos we get sooo many things wrong with us and haveso many sensitivities? Keep smiling all. Hugs Mary Michelon.

yes i get this sadly my family dont get what i mean when i say it hurts head phones r brill idea i have them on most time lol down low i cant stand tv being on and its really loud and when i go in to ask to turn it down no one watching it gggrrrrrr i hate noise xxx
