Hi I have come down with a nasty case of the flu, I was wondering if it affects those with this illness worse than the normal population. I came down very suddenly on Wed. afternoon with a fever and a sudden cough which seem to come out of nowhere. The fever I can't seem to get below 102 degrees even with loads of motrin and tylenol It has gone as high as 104.6 degrees. I have been taking Tamiflu since Fri. The fever seems to feed the awful pains in my legs and back making it impossible to sleep. I have the chest congestion and all the other fun stuff that goes along with the flu. How long is too long to run this type of fever? Janis
Do you have a nurse practitioner in your healthcare plan who is available 24/7? Some healthcare plans have the service available. If yours does, I'd call right away and ask. I personally think you should get immediate healthcare for your flu. I don't know enough about what's ok with fevers and the flu but your continued high fever worries me. I hate to encourage you to go out now, on a Sunday night for some medical help but I think it's a good idea to.
Please let e know how you've made out!!!
Worriedly,
Petunia
Janis, agree with others. Like you I have autoimmune disorders, so when we get sick, our bodies can go into extra overdrive not only on a virus or other infection, but our whole body as well. Fever is a normal sign our bodies are fighting the "intruder". But with a prolonged high fever you may need more help. Please call your doctor.
hope you feel better soon.
loving hugs

i ,too agree with what all the others said . i hope you get some medical help soon.. a temp close to 105 is quite high.you may have something that is needed to be treated with antibiotics and iv fluids. please go to where ever you can for urgent care. i have you in my thoughts and prayers and sending you love,
xoxoxo
Not certain, but I think the flu doesn't cause that fever that high, maybe 101 or so, So, you may have a bacterial pneumonia with that cough.
I'd get in the morning and keep Tylenol going, drink plenty of water, and use cool compresses.
Feel better
Geoff
