I have a problem with my fingers and my hands. I can be holding a glass, cup, plate, or just about anything and all of a sudden it drops on the floor. I have dropped full cups of coffee or hot tea and it sprays all over me. This morning I was filling a glass of water from my 2 1/2 gallon water jug, it has a push in/pull out spout, and I my finger stopped working and water went all over the floor. I found myself yelling FINGER WORK!
This can happen anytime. I feel embarrassed when it happens in public. People look at me like I'm an idiot. But this is something I cannot control.
Does anyone else have this problem? How do you handle it when it happens in front of other people, especially in public?
I’m sorry this is happening to you all. I have had it happen to me a couple of times, intermittently. No idea what brings it on either. Usually my legs are what decide to suddenly just give out on me, I have almost fallen down stairs and actually twisted/rolled my ankle numerous times because of it. Ah fibro.
I do this at times. This is the reason I have no glass ware in my kitchen. When out in public my daughter is usually with me and helps me if it happens. I ignore peoples smart remarks and just go on my daughter onthe other hand will look people right in the eye and say my mom has fibro and lupus she isn't drunk or any thing I would be glad to educate you. I have had people tell me they did not mean to hurt my feelings. We actually had a couple join us for lunch after their son thought I was dropping things because I was drunk I guess gitting the public educated any way we can is a good thing. So far I haven't had it happen to many times at work.
Used to do this all the time. It comes and goes with me. It is also accompanied by numbness. I just call it the dropsies. I try to hold a cup or object with both hands. Let them look and just smile back at them, you are no idiot! If FINGER WORK is all you yelled your doing good! I am sorry that you suffer from this, it is frustrating, but you aren't alone!
HI Kerry, I have had the dropsy’s quite a few times and as a result will need to replace my glasses and dishes by fall but it doesn’t happen that often (I’m down from an 8 place setting to a 5 1/2 lol)
Since it seems to happen to you a lot, I would suggest that rather than assuming it is fibromyalgia you discuss with your doctor to ensure that he/she checks it out and ensures that some other illness is not in play.
