Can’t see a doctor to get referred to specialist until Dec 30th…
I’m in so much pain I really don’t know what to do ?

Hi Jenn, I am really sorry you are having such a difficult time. Have you tried calling your doctor's office and explaining how much pain you are in and just can't wait until Dec 30th? Can you be on the list for a cancellation? Can you look for a doctor who can see you sooner? What are some of the things you are trying to ease the pain? I know for me when things are bad I try to be really nice to myself. I take hot baths with Epsom salt. I use ice packs on sore spots (heat works well for a lot of people but not for me). I try gentle, very gentle stretching. I use Salon Pas patches or other over the counter topical pain relief. I put on relaxing music and fill my room with pleasant scent, usually lavender for me (it is relaxing). Those are just some of the things I try to help with reducing pain. Please keep us updated on how you are doing. Hugs!!

Have you checked with your insurance to see if you need a referral when i saw my nero dr I did not have to have a referral. Is their a teaching hospital close to you sometimes you dont need a referral for them.

Hi Jenn,

I'm sorry you are in so much pain. I agree with what Auburnm stated. Have you found things that have worked for you regarding the pain? I use hot baths, cool packs and an herbal liniment that I bought from a organic herbal company that is much like icy/hot patches, but provides a nice distraction from the pain. It is heating and cooling at the same time and really helps take the edge off of the pain. It is 100% natural. Salonpas patches are great for this as well. I use them at work on my low back and it helps with sitting a lot, which I do on a daily basis at my job. Are you taking any medications that you have found helpful? Before I saw a specialist and my PCP, I took one 500mg Ibuprofen and one 500mg Acetaminophen. The combination of the two made a difference in my pain level and made it more tolerable. Are you able to talk to your PCP about pain management? Just to hold you over until you see the specialist. Your PCP should be concerned that you are in so much pain.

Talk to you soon,

Sara

hi.. all great advice from Auburmn, Purple and Sara.. As for for the nausea , ginger is helpful. you can buy some ginger root or powdered and boil it and/ or put it in some herbal tea ( camomille is good) Add some sweetener as it can be spicy. If you try it start out with a small amount till you can take more. I wish you all the best . HUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGS

Ginger is a great natural remedy for nausea. My pharmacist sells ginger hard candies and even has sugar free versions for diabetics.

You have already gotten some great tips, so I won’t pile on. If you can’t get in to see a specialist before December, you might try going back to your primary and asking for some help to get you through. If they are thinking RA, you may be able to get a steroid taper, and if it is inflammatory arthritis of any kind the steroids will definitely take the edge off.

For your rheum appointment, make sure you keep a log of your symptoms for a few weeks including stiffness, pain, joint swelling, sleep problems, movement problems, and what your symptoms prevent you from doing. Know a patient is losing function is almost more important to docs that the pain is.

Keep us posted on how things go for you. Remember that it gets better.

Thanks everyone…

Im on a waiting list for a rheumy since janruary.i wasnt even given an appt yet.Waiting lists are very long in my country

Lol! I try to do water class too, and the little old ladies are kicking my butt most days. Granted they do go to every class and I’m lucky If I can hit one a week. Even so they’re in much better shape. I do notice that, if not really careful, I can aggravate my arthritis when exercising or even doing manual work. I don’t think it’s from fibro for me. When that happens, it helps to rest that joint for a week. You may like doing laps with a kick-board instead or walking laps in the pool. YouTube may have some light exercises that you could watch for your low weeks.

Hopefully you’ll get a call from the doc soon. Are you in the US? I forgot to look.
