some ask me why i chose the name riverofsurvival. i chose it because im not a victim of anything. there are times when a river is calm, there are times when a river has rapids and rough waters. it is the same with life there are calm times, there are rough times but if you keep treading the rough waters of the river it will only make you stronger and more capable of dealing with things in both calm and rough areas of life and gives the ones who do tread the waters long and hard enough the wisdom to help others and that is what makes us strong survivors.
Good thinking! Stay strong!
thank u but i wont sit here and say its been easy cuz it sure hasnt but all my life i been stubborn i made it through the horrible abuses as a kid, i made it through 2 abusive marriages, i made it through a car wreck that docs said should have killed me, i died on the operating table during a c section with my son they shocked me and i came back. im not meant to give up but there r times i do get down and out but its not in my nature to throw in the towel i think that would just make me feel worse.
You are one strong lady! You certainly have been through it, seems your work is not finished here! You're right, we just cannot give up! There is just always hope, always a new break through, a new Dr prospect, something out there to keep us going.
My grandkids keep me going! They are my heart! Have one here with me now, is wishing and hoping to get snowed in with us, he cheers every time he sees a flake fall from the sky! ha!
I hope that your health ordeals are over now and you can find some relief and peace.
So glad you joined us!
thank u sk im stuggling with knee and foot pain again tonight but it snowed we have almost 3 inches but i am going to try for some sleep soon a good old fashion meditation cd and my therapy kitty laying between my knees usually helps a bit
I agree
thank u keirsten
Sounds like you chose a great name. It describes your journey. You are a survivor! Thanks for sharing your strength through your message.

your very welcome L kitty just cuz i get down and out too doesnt mean i cant try and help i think the best people to help is the ones who experienced it i hate it when people say i know what your going through but i dont habve the conditions u do i always gfeel like asking them then how do u know exactly how i feel if u never been down that dirt road and cant see when the dust gets kicked in your face
hope your snow stays at only 3 inches! If like here, snow just really kills me last few years. I still have to shovel 3 " off so you don't have ice rink and whomever design the landscaping just did not think about how it be nice to have sun to melt snow and leaves in winter. I know many people hate raking or mowing up leaves but beats shoveling snow any day!
I also hope you have had the chance to river raft, as teaches you how much fun rapids or nice stead slow current can be on hot day! It is too bad more people did not meditate. works for many things in one's life.
and any kind of critter is the best medicine period!
hi siskya i went river rafting a few times lol it was fun and it got me thinking see i write poetry and im a deep thinker so the thought crossed my mind that just maybe life was similiar to a river and the more i thought the more it made sense that a river is like life in alot of ways its smooth sometimes, its rough sometimes, it helps things grow and thrive, it has fish in it, sometimes is warm sometimes its cold, alot of what we hear and what others say can be related to a river in alot of ways and if your not ready to brave the river of life and go with the flow sometimes then its possible the river currents could drag u under and u drown. just like life can when it gets rough sometimes it will drag u down with it but if you r a strong enough swimmer neither a river or life will take u down with the currents they hand u.
yea...my husband use to write beautiful poetry and got me into it. I use to write some myself...looking for those pictures to describe things in your life. I always been drawn to water and mountains...i think many things in nature can reflect what you feel or what to say but cannot find the words.
I remember my friend who was river guide...told us to never grab a tree limb coming out of the water just float feet first....that tree limb can pull you under and gets people caught. That is how most drown on rivers. I had not known that but i grew up mainly swimming in lakes...high alpine lakes that hurt and push all your breath out as soon as your head goes under!
but so clear and beautiful and you feel cleansed swimming in them. Poetry is very great way to get feelings out....kind of like lyrics to music as well. I like painting to do it as well...journal about what i painted just let flow out. Or write poem
I live near beautiful Mountain..i should put in my photo...2nd highest here in lower so 3rd highest in all US. I watch form it owns clouds and weather...people try and to conquer it...many women who beat breast cancer come here and climb it to represent how they won! I see the analogy there as well...snow goes and rock become extremely dangerous to climb on...it is like the Mountain has life of her own. She is one of what some around the world call 7 spiritual sister mountains. Kind of cool since it attracts people from all over the world. Some believe few strange ideas but okay...it adds spice to life!
I realized..i grew up in Napa Sonoma areas before it was famous but it became as i grew up...Lake Tahoe was another place i spent all our vacations hiking and back packing in 60's before it was fad and i fell in love with high Sierras and they became popular. I feel lucky that i learned to love nature as small child...that was one of best gifts my parents gave to me. I can have just really rotten day but a 15 minute walk in woods around a nearby lake or just in open space behind my hope where geese and herons plus golden eagles live and wood ducks....deer coyotes foxes raccoons and skunks and one of my favorite quail with their bob tops lol can just cheer me up or calm me down...even take away the pain emotional or physical.
My point is again, i ended up somewhere kind of famous...though here is small and quiet. Summers there are more tourist but not compared what Napa has turned into...or Tahoe though both places still have many quiet places to go hike up in nature and not see another person.
Sorry..you got me rambling about nature...and have gut feeling you also enjoy it as much as i do. My name is tied into Indian word for the Mountain up here changed a bit I ended in sis since so many women are on this support site and i also have loved when women support other women rather than feel jealous etc. I love when we come together to help one another!
Well one day maybe you will share one of your poems....that could be great start ..have people send in their poems or small stories about how fibro has affected our lives. ...well maybe you could consider it??!!! though i love to hear a few ..sure you write great ones with analogies of visions of nature and disease. well please consider it!
thank u siskya i may put a couple of them on here and yup i love nature and such camping , fishing, hiking, atleast when im in remission :) i still ride my mountain bike when i can and by the way im half cherokee so my ties to nature and disaster r pretty strong i may put one of my poems on here tonight :) cant do it right now i have an appt in a while to be at but look for it :).
