Is this fibro? Or something else?

Sorry to butt in ladies. I am starting cognitive behaviour therapy on Tuesday. I've had it before for anxiety. The problem with this country though, they only fund about 12 sessions for mental health unless you're really at risk. So its pretty frustrating. I shouldn't complain as its free to us but we don't get such a good service as yourself and I certainly couldn't afford to continue it privately. However we do pay a shizz load in taxes every year and everything we buy is taxed to death. I would defo recomment CBT. It's a good form of self-help too.

Thats a good idea SK.

I did that in the winter when my fingers starting swelling up and the joints were killing, because they wasn't sure if that was RA. I had clear bloods and xrays (they did actually look a bit weird to me but I'm not a doc) so a locum doc just said it was chillblains. The swelling went down as the weather improved so that was ok.

I will see if the this new problem comes back and will get to the docs asap.

Last night my achilles tendon swelled up a lot and was red and hurt like hell. Then this morning it started in my left heel too.

Don't we get some weird symptons?!

Ohh, the bumps were itchy then sore. But the palms swelled up, itchy and red, then the burning kicked in. Omg I had to keep putting ice on it.

Thank you hugs!

Jo

I'd agree with petunia. Sounds like bug bites or shingles. Without pictures though it's hard to tell. My son justhad something similiar from bed bugs, those things attack the face, hands and feet. Take a photo next time and compare it to pics on the web of other things to see what it could be, oddly enough that's how I knew the bites on my son were bed bugs. I compared the pics, found out my nephews bed/room was infested with them.

Could be psoriasis too. Keep track of its appearance. Maybe it could have something to do with a food allergy or senstivity. I have gained more sensitivity with my body over the past yr than I have ever had in my life.

Good luck!!

Hi Jo,

What was the name of the antibiotic? There is a class of antibiotics that cause Achilles tendon problems. Some of the names of these drugs: levaquin, cipro, anything with the ending of -floxacin. I would stop taking these meds as some people get rupture of the tendon.

I have ruptured both of my Achilles tendons, and can confidently tell you that the antibiotics were to blame, they are now listed as allergies! This was no help to my body, believe me, I still suffer the results of these ruptures!

I spent 6-8 weeks in a hard cast with foot pointed, you talk about a way to throw off your entire structure! Even with physical therapy, I lost lots of motion with those traumas, and they still hurt me especially with bad weather!

Please don't put yourself through this Jo, Maria is spot on with this!

Thanks Mo bless you!

There's a few things it could be. So many different things to watch out for isn't there. Well I know its not fibro so I will keep an eye out for it again.

Bless to the bed ugs too. I thought it was just just a saying lol. That must be very itchy and sore. I have noticed many sensitivity and intolerances to foods etc too. Thats defo fibro isn't it.

Take care and stay strong. Hugs and prayers,

Jo

Wow, sue,

That is awful. I never actually saw this in clinical practice. I can believe that your body still suffers from that incident. Oh my, we are lucky folk

Maria

Oh good grief, SK!!! That's atrocious! Was this a known side effect of the medicine? Did you have any sort of legal recourse for this? I can't believe that any med could be allowed on the market that did this to someone's Achille's heel! I sure hope that Jo looks into this ASAP and makes sure that her meds DO NOT have this side effect!

Jo, please be sure and check those meds!!!

HI Kitty,

Flucloxacillin. I've never heard of them damaging achilles. Thats mad! lol. I've finished the course. Thanks for the info. I would never have guessed that my achilles would be damaged by these. I will tell my doc about that when I see him next. It was a dif doc in the same surgery that gave me them. Weird.

Thanks again!!

Jo

Omg SK,

Thats horrendous. I am shocked to hear this. I do react to a lot of medications since fibro but never heard of this before. Flippin Heck! I'm so sorry that you have had such awful problems. I never woud like to go through that. It hurt enough as it is . Couldn't walk hardly for a few days. I can still feel t a bit now. I will defo get on to the doc about this. Did you doc warn you about it? I hope you suedthe backside off them!

Thanks SK! (Still shocked). Love and hugs!

Jo

Shocking isn't it Petunia,

I've finished the course now and will be following that up with the doc. I will make sure I am never given those again. It bloody hurt! So sorry for Sk, bless her.

Thanks for the support!

Jo

Hey, this happened to me once and then it went away pretty quick as well. I was worried I had bed bugs at the time! So I don't know, maybe it was just a kind of skin rash. I would have asked a doctor or something if it had stayed, but it just disappeared to quickly. :P Sorry can't help you with more info than that!

Thanks Kiwi!!

No thats good really because then hopefully it won't come back. So its all good! Thanks again!!

Jo

It was just a few years ago that I was given Levaquin for bronchitis, and I happened to come home, take one and looked it up on the computer, and saw the Achilles tendon rupture and just about hit the floor! There were no PC's around back then, and it was not a known side effect, so I took the medicine!

It is known to me now though, so it is on my charts, and I ask what I am being given, if it will cause this! It is difficult to beieve it is still on the market!

Um! Just the thought of that makes you about scratch your skin off! Scares me! I have seen the pictures and read the stories about bed bugs, that is one plague I would like to avoid for my lifetime!

We live out in the country, and have the crop fields around us, so we get bugs here, never seen before, and I talk to these critters and tell them that their place is outside, I will not bother them out there, but if they get in the house "they are DEAD"!

So how are you Jo? Is this rash still on you?

Hey Jo,

That medicine is in the penicillin family and would not cause this achilles side effect.....or at least not according to the literature !!!

Omg! Thats terrible! That must really hurt!

No it went after 5 days or so, then the achilles for a few days this last week.

Thanks SK. Makes me itchy just thinking about these

Thanks Fibrokitty!

Thats a relief!

Ok if it wasn't the meds, then what was it? Possible psoriatic arthritis? Here's a little about psoriatic arthritis and achilles tendons:

Other symptoms that are more typical of psoriatic arthritis than other forms of arthritis include inflammation in the Achilles tendon (at the back of the heel) or the Plantar fascia (bottom of the feet), and dactylitis (sausage-like swelling of the fingers or toes).[8]

I think it's called Achilles tendonitis in this case. Also am wondering again if those little bumps you had were, indeed, psoriasis. Believe it or not, psoriasis can present like this, including the pain. And those with psoriasis can get psoriatic arthritis, whose symptoms are very much like fibro (some people have both.) Did you have any kind of sore throat before the presentation of the painful spots? I'm going to post this and then look for links to psoriasis for you to look at, to see if your episode of bumps was similar to any of them.

Here's the link: http://medicalpictures.net/guttate-psoriasis-pictures/

Ignore the pics on the right and skip down to the bottom ones. There's also a very brief bit of info on the psoriasis in question. See if anything fits.
