Letting Go

I had to go into school today and clear out my personal possessions. It was tough ment ally, emotionally and physically. I went on FMLA leave in October due to a major flare up and the district would not let me come in to get anything. I had made a short list of things that I really wanted, knowing that I did not need 17 years of teaching materials in my little house. I had planned to give everything else away. Well, people had come in and helped themselves. I suppose they felt they needed these things but I have been available via email I am dissapointed that they did not ask. I will just take it all off on my taxes as donations.

I am no longer a public school teacher. The administration told everyone that I had retired. No I resigned due to allegations by students that the district choose to push under the rug and refused to investigate.

I am hurting it was after noon by the time I left with boxes of books. My husband and I had a quick lunch and i could barely get out of the booth. By the time I drove home I could barely get out of the car. I’ve been sitting on the couch and have trouble walking every time I get up. My husband doesn’t really understand. He thinks I’m just a little sore, like it used to be after a good workout. I think I’ll take a hot shower.

Tomorrow is the first day of my new life. One where I take good care of me. One where I listen to my body and gently care for it. One where I ask all of you for compassion, and suggestions and I simply let the well meaning but way off base suggestions of those who do not know just float down the drain. I’ll not make excuses.
