Meds

Has anyone had any luck using supplements instead of all the meds? I went to the doc a couple days ago and he added another med. He added 25mg Elavil. Anyone else take this? What kind of side effects does it have?

i tried 5 mg of elavil a long time ago. I slept for 13 hours and was stoned the whole next day so this did not work for me. Everyone reacts differently to everything. I dont like to sleep that long or be stoned. I like using ginger for its many therapeutic benefits, some being, headache, nausea, stomach spasms and inflammation.. I like using relaxation techniques , imagery and meditation. my favorite sounds are from Steven Halpern who has studied many years on the healing powers of the body and brain with various sounds. I put this music on every night when i lay my head to sleep and when i do daytime meditations. all the best on your journey to well being;' HUGGGGS

Hi delynn2006:
I take Nortryptyline which is close to Elavil - my main side effect is dry mouth. I also take a supplement called Fibrolief but just started it a couple weeks ago. Before you take any supplements i would check with your doctor.

I take it and it is the only reason I sleep at all. I have tried 5 other sleeping medications to no avail. It’s been a godsend to me. I had initial side effects of morning drowsiness but it went away after a few weeks.

I do have morning drowsiness but I
I just started taking it last night. I had the best nights sleep I have had in over a year! I hope this is what I needed and I will continue have have a good nights sleep at least most nights.

Be sure you take it at least 30-45 mins. before going to bed too that always seems to take edge off morning drowsiness. Also if it starts becoming less effective see if you can up dose by half pill. It started working less effectively for me after 6 mos. so I told dr. and this was his advice. I literally feel blessed I have this medication. It is only one that delivers on it’s promise. Good luck hon. Also if you’re taking any other meds see which cause drowsiness and ask dr. if you can take w Elavil at bedtime if you’re able. This helps me stay asleep too!

Hi hun,

In the UK this is Amiitriptyline its an anti depressant that has been around for a long time. It has been used in pain relief for many years now and is commonly prescribed for arthritis. I was on this for a few years. It did make me a bit drowsy at times but the sleep was worth it and it was occasionally for me. I used to take it about 8pm. I really got on well with it. I was on a much higher dose at the end but it was being used as an anti depressant as well as pain relief. Less pills yeah ! Unfortunately my GP took me off it because it was old and there was something new around. Change for changes sake. Now i am on a whole new medication regimen. Bring back the Amitriptyline I say lol.

Best of luck
