Migraine not going away

My pain dr gave my head a nerve block today. They were booked, but the secretary said he would see me. They left the room dark until he came in to do it. He also gave trigger points around my neck and ear. He is a very compassionate dr. The nurse took my BP in the dark several times.

He gave me some more med to take with my Zomig, but Tim hasn’t brought it home yet. He also said he was going to increase my Botox next month and thinks a dr cutting down my cymbalta may have been the cause.

Wish me luck. Gentle hugs.

that sounds like a great dr. when is was in the er they shut off the lights as i got to the rrrom and had a warm gown and blanket waiting for me. i will have to look into this when i somehow get insurance. i am hoping to get my disability soon.

ok so yesterday i was good no head pain. well i woke up today with this horriable pain behind my ear. my friend who suffers from migrianes said its the pressure releasing from the migrain cause i waited 11 days to go in. i know stupid but i was hoping to get rd of it on my own thats why i wrote this.

I have to be cool. Warm makes me nauseated.

The current ad here on site is "find a headache specialist', it sounded promising to me! You give them a zip code, they give you a list of specialists in your area.

I also have bad migraines and the doctor is not any good im looking for another does anybody know a good doctor in boston my doctor doesn't want to help me and she did a mri and never gave me the results im tired of doctors especially there garbage sherri

Eeyore, why can’t you take Zomig 5mg? It is not a triptipan. The Botox is administered at a pain clinic every 3 month by injections into your head as a preventative. So, what is the reason that you can’t take or have this procedure? Have you asked? I am nosey any just wondered.

I suffered for years and ended up in the ER wanted to hammer my face it hurt so badly. I either was throwing up or on the commode. My neurologist and pain dr finally came up with this. Before the Botox, I had to have infusions at the hospital. My neurologist called it in. I would sit there for about four hours while the meds went in. It usually stopped a week long one. I like the Botox much better.

Please let me know. Btw, the triptipans made me throw up. I have had them since I was around 13. So, I am a pro. I would like to help you.

I don't know if it's in the class you aren't able to use, but I use fiorocet (generic is butalbital/caffeine/apap). It is a prn med, so you aren't having to add yet another 'maintenance' med to your daily cocktail of meds, which is nice. I am prescribed 1-2 every 4hours... I take 1 at onset and if I have no relief in the first hour I will take another. Then depending on the duration and severity is how I determine how many I take later. I used to go to the e.r. when migraines got too bad, however I have had a great deal of success with this med, that even though they are still pretty bad, they stay just shy of severe most of the time. Good luck with finding something that helps and hopefully you don't have week long headaches too often.

Please try to find caffergot. It is a medication that I have used abroad and even my Psychiatrist here in US has sent me on a mission to once again try and find it here. It is a combination of caffeine and ergotamine. Sadly, here in NY, I still cannot find a pharmacy that still has it on their med lists but it is still being made by pharmaceutical companies and if you are really interested, it can be bought from Canada. This medication is very old, and in my experience, that makes it a heck of a lot more reliable than a lot the stuff they are mass patenting these days. Like I have said, I have used it and would not recommend it to you if I didn't find it helpful, and even my doctor has written a prescription for it, and he can be very old school when I force him to be, but we cant find it, locally. If you can, just also give your doc a ring and ask him about caffergot, then search it out. Btw...it is also very very affordable.

just a little info ...zomig is definitely a triptan, It's formal, medical name is zolmitriptan

hi I wish I could get something for my migraines all I have is imetrex.I just want some relief my neurologist doesn't believe me and wont give me anything I hate headaches.Im waiting to see another doctor.what to do in the meantime sherri

This may be a weird question, but how can you tell what type of migraine you have? I have constant headaches and I just don't know what kind they are and I don't know how to treat them. Any suggestions on where to look for types and possible treatments? Thanks so much.

Not a weird question at all. Your computer, like at WedMd, will tell you exactly. Some people think they have migraines when they have tension headaches and vice versa. If you needed oxygen, you’d have cluster. If you have them like you say, they are probably aura or typical. You may need to have them checked out if you are having them all the time often. It’s not unusual for me to go 8 or more days, but I usually get a nerve block. I can’t take the pain anymore when the Zomig won’t work. A neurologist is a good place to start. I get Botox for mine.
