New to the group and have a few questions for others about pain, itching, and burning sensations

Hi everyone, I was diagnosed with Fribro in August of 2018 after years of being told I had MS (which I don’t). It has been exhausting and frustrating. I’ve been reading some posts and see that I have many of the same symptoms as many.

Some of the most frustrating symptoms that I experience include: fatigue, myofacial pain (mainly in the center of my back and chest), muscle pain to the touch, and tight chest with shortness of breath. My latest symptom that I have experienced that started 6 weeks ago has been a tingling, itchy, burning sensation (no rash) that I get in my face, neck, inside my mouth in my throat, inside my ears, arms, chest, and back. It feels like pins and needles and burning. I even sometimes get a chest and face rash, not sure if this is really fibromyalgia related? I’ve been tested for EVERYTHING for these past 6 weeks and been to 4 different specialists with no luck. I take Zyrtec and Benadryl but, only get mild relief if any. I also get itching/dry eyes that burn too. The doctors have mentioned a mast cell activation disorder too that could be the cause?

Does anyone else have this type of burning sensation that feels like itching? I appreciate any feedback you all may have.

Be sure to check your medication list. Check for side effects and interactions. You may want to speak to a good local pharmacist. Your doctor can run tests and diagnose things, your pharmacists know chemicals.

I agree with ModSupport.
For the last many months, I have struggled with dry itchy eyes, dry skin, and a horribly dry mouth. All tests are normal and do not suggest sjogrens. But the symptoms are affecting my life. So, my rheumatologist added Pilocarpine to defeat the dryness. It has helped tremendously. What we think is occuring is due to the allergy medicine I have to take, the allergy shots I’ve chosen to get, and few of my medicines that can cause dry mouth. So, I am fixing one problem, by taking another med. Oh, and the Pilocarpine causes me to sweat! LOL. But I can’t go off the allergy medicine because I get sick (sinus infection, bronchitis, sore throat, laryngitis, you name it). So, this was the only thing that I thought I could do until the allergies are cured. At least, that I what I hope occurs with the shots.
Hope you find answers and let us know if you do.
Blessings.

Thank you both for your feedback. I am also getting a really dry mouth and eyes, I take Zyrtec and Zantac each day for the H1 and H2 antihistamine properties, and realize that could be causing the dryness. I talked with my rheumatologist yesterday, he said he doesn’t hear about itching that frequently from his patients. He wants me to start cymbalta, I’m a bit hesitant due to the potential side effects. It’s only a 30mg dose. I’m going to see how things go and consider that but, not sure it will help with the itching/tingling. I feel like I have bugs crawling on me!! Thanks again, Jami

Jammer13,
I don’t know if this will help. I have had dry mouth and really dry eyes for a long time. the doctors always told me that I should just chew gum or use hard candy like lemon heads to help. Then I went to my eye doctor and he told me that I have Sjogren’s Syndrome, which is an autoimmune disease that attacks and destroys glands responsible for keeping the eyes, mouth and other parts of the body moist and lubricated. So, my doctor said that I can use Systane Gel Drops, which you can find in the eye drop section at Wal-Mart or any pharmacy. Baby shampoo, when you are in the shower rub the shampoo in circular motion; do this for 4 weeks along with using the gel drops.
I have to do this several times a year. I also use lemon drops to help with the dry mouth and drink 60 oz of water everyday. I hope this helps

Hopalopng, Thank you! I have been using the gel eye drops recommended by the opthalmologist which seem to be working well. I appreciate your help and spuport!

Jammer13,
You might ask your doctor to test you for Sjogren’s Syndrome, it is where your salivary glands are not working correctly and is classified as a chronic autoimmune disease, The symptoms that you are experiencing in your mouth and eyes could be due to this. Check it out and hope that you find some relief.

Jammer13,
I just want to warn you Cymbalta does cause weight gain. I have been on it for 3 months now and have gained 25 pounds which I’m not happy about. I went to my eye doctor about the dryness in my eyes that was bad enough it was causing optical migraines. He suggested that I use eye drops that have oil in it and then also to wash my eyelids with baby shampoo. Rub it in circles on your eyelids and then wash with warm water. If you do this for about 6 weeks it will help so much with the itching dry eyes. It helped me anyway.
