Overwhelmed, Oh So Very Overwhelmed

Wow! Whirlwind! So I finished and passed all of my classes and I will graduate this time next year, I am taking spring/summer courses and one starts on Tuesday. But that's not the big news, it is.. I move on Saturday! Got the call yesterday so I am packing, doing laundry, packng and cleaning. Thankfully I can leave whatever I need to leave behind. I am going to be moving down the street from my parents in an apartment with a roommate and better yet, no stairs! But wow this is a taking such a toll on my body.. Ouch! Any advice on moving and packing in general? An advice on handling the stress? Any good memories? Any suggestions on stuff to get to make house hold tasks simpler?

Hi Shawna...I moved in August last year I had just been diagnosed but had been in debilitating pain for 9 months when my symptoms first started. Anyway it wasn't easy and I don't really have any advice to make it easier on you...it is what it is. I do hope you have lots of help...take your time unpacking afterwards. When all was said and done for me...I was kind of out of commission for a week recuperating from it all. It's a lot of energy to move for anyone let alone fibro sufferers or anyone else who is dealing with chronic pain for that matter. Take breaks...know eventually all will fall into place and you'll be proud and happy with yourself once you're in and settled! Hopefully you won't have to move again for a long, long time!!! Unfortunately, for myself and because of financial reasons and not being able to go back to work, I may have to look at moving yet again! I am going to evaluate my situation and make a decision by this August. Good luck and I wish you happiness in your new place! :)

Hi Shawna!

Congrats on getting a shared apartment, and doing well in school!

The best advice is to use a cart, a wagon, anything to cut down on lifting and lugging, also make heavy boxes small ones, especially books! Only use large boxes or containers for light weight stuff! If you are taking clothing downstairs, put them in garbage bags, and roll them down! Accept all the help you can get!

Good things are happening, just take good care of yourself!

Hugs,

SK

Oooooooooooooooh. Ouch. Yeah, I moved twice with fibro. First time wasn't too bad. Second time....wellllll, it was kind of rough. Bending to put things into the boxes. Picking them up when done to move them out of the way. But it will be sooooo worth it for you! Think of all of the pluses when you're flagging in energy.

Make sure that you lift with your legs, bending them at the knee. Don't just use your back for lifting or else you could mess it up. Put a number on every single box if you have the time, then keep that number for when the movers arrive. I can't tell you how many times stuff of mine has "disappeared" after a move. If you know how many boxes you had and can count how many you get back at the end of the move, it could really help to save you from wondering sadly whatever happened to the heirloom that your great aunt Tilly gave you.

I can't think of a single fibro-related tip for what I did during the move. Using a chiropractor might help, as might getting a massage or two.

So congratulations on your passed courses and your upcoming move! You worked hard for your grades so go and enjoy them for awhile, until classes resume.

Happily,

Petunia
