Reason for the munchies

I just did a bit of research into craving food especially junk food.

Apparently people with chronic pain do crave foods high in sugar and fat as they trigger the brain to release chemicals very much like opiates.

Since having fibro I have had a binge eating problem, and since getting pregnant and stopping meds I could clear out a bakery! Its so nice to have another explanation for it now too!

I’m hoping I’m not the only one here with the munchies so I thought I’d share.

If doctors know this they could tell how much pain you’re in by the amount of calories you can eat in one go!! (And then readjust our prescriptions to actually help!!) Ha ha!!

Hi Jo,

I have had the worst attack 3 days ago and today I was still feeling bad. I was wondering why I had too much appetite and craving for sweets. I ate 2 honey glazed donuts, 3 sugar raised donuts, white chocolate, cup noodle soup and a lot more. I was thinking what happened? and then I came across your article.

Haha you go girl! That’s exactly what I’m talking about!

Haha thanks Tammy!

You’d think I could eat for an army! So not good though lol. I just feel so ick all the time and food weirdly takes it away. Then I get hungry, then I forget I’ve eaten lol!

It really is hard without any meds and the insomnia just gives you more time to think about food.

What’s your favourite munchies Tammy? Mine is cakes/desserts. Chocolate and toffee ones at the top of the list…

Hope you are well!

Omg don’t mention cheesecake when the shops are shut! Lol!! I started making cheesecakes a couple of months ago too which seemed a good idea at the time… “luckily” the IBS kicked in lol.

What I love is when you go to the doctor complaining about all your aches and pains, and the doctor tells you to loose weight, like that is going to fix your problem!

Food cravings can also mean the body is lacking a specific nutrient. Hope the pregnant is going well and continues to do so. I craved pineapple the last 6 months. You should post a pic each month so we can watch you grow. I wish you all the best. Some people actually say the felt better while pregnant and had less flares. Get plenty of rest

Clear out the bakery! ha!! I hear you, girlfriend, and after that you're digging around for the Doritos! LOL!!

Cuz, I'm keeping an eye on you, girl! ha! ha!

Haha you gotta eat them puddings first then save room for the main course(s)! Lol!!

Now you can tell him it’s his own fault for not getting rid of your pain… Medical negligence isn’t that?! Lol.

I'm craving GOOD Thai food, anyone else?

Good work, Jo. I had a doctor tell me just about the same thing one time. He said that we eat delicious, or any foods because it gives us pleasure and distracts us from the pain. That must be the hormone release. Very interesting isn't it? Our bodies are so amazing.

Hope you and the little baby are doing well.

Kitty

That’s a good point. Maybe some multi vitamins and minerals may help. Or do a two/three day trial for different things. I am only 7/8 weeks pregnant so only starting to show a bit of chubby lol at the mo but will post some pics soon. Am feeling a lot worse so far especially as no meds but got to stay hopeful/positive. In a way I’m lucky there’s not much work but need money so making the most of the rest while I can.

Thanks for your support Purplebutterfly. I hope you are keeping well.

Yes and a big fat indian chicken madras and a roast… omg its only 9am. Yay its Sundayand Simons cooking!!

Yes you’re so right there lol. I could eat for england before though and now its just getting silly lol. When and where is this programme on? Sounds interesting.

Yes it does that too for definite and a pig out helps sleep too which is why it can be worse at night for me when the insomnia is at its worst.

Thanks for the clarity Kitty.
