Hi all,
Night before last I experienced the most excruciating stomach pain and I am wondering if any of you have experienced this kind of pain? I just wasn’t sure if it’s a FM sort of thing!
I was watching tv with my daughter when my lower stomach area started hurting! I was gritting my teeth and did not say anything to my daughter in hopes that it would pass. Finally I could not take it any longer and I jumped up hoping that standing would ease the pain. It just kept getting worse and worse. My daughter helped me to my bedroom and I tried laying down but that did not help either. I was crying and cussing (which is not normal for me) and just sat on the edge of my bed hunched over as my daughter rubbed my back and shoulders. The pain lasted for about 30 minutes and I got cotton mouth because of it! I hope this never happens again!
Is this a normal FM symptom? Thanks for any input!
Barbara
I have had this happen but it was because of few different reason.
1. New med did not agree with me and made me sick till it finally broke down fully and dissipated from stomach
2. Gastritis and or severe gas
3. Gall Bladder usually after eating a spicy or greasy meal
4. Has not coughs "potty" in a while due to pain meds (drink more water)
anyway it goes if it happen more then once i would consult the doctor
Hi Barbara,
I agree with Avenk and HappyBunnytsu. I'd also add a possible stomach ulcer as a possible contender. Gall stones are supposed to cause hideous pain, so they might also be creating this pain. And, believe it or not, last year I had the same sort of thing happen in my abdomen but many, many of these sharp, hideous pains, like someone was sticking a bunch of hot knives into my abdomen. I went to the doctor and was told it was a stomach bug. I was plenty upset by that diagnosis and demanded to see another doctor for another opinion. Second doctor agreed. Went home, next day back at doctor, 3rd doctor agreed and suggested Pepto Bismal. Apparently she'd also caught the same bug and said it was the worst one she'd ever had. I'm not saying that what you have IS a bug, only that a bug can sometimes cause something this painful and it's *not* just fibro. My suggestion is to please get it checked out.
I have had my Gallbladder removed and I also get these pains...they start gradually and build. I describe the pain to be like full blown labor...the stomach is distended and the pain peaks and does not come down...I waller in the floor, peel the carpet with my toes and nothing makes it stop... when it does stop it is sudden and I feel just fine...I have had this happen 4 times now in a 3 year period...the first lasting about an hour... the second an hour and 45 min. the third about 30 min... I have been told by some online friends to have my pancreas checked...more one of the sphincters... but I have not had the time just yet to address that issue as this fibro and bursitis has taken front stage ...but I do plan to see a gastrologist (sp)...Might be something you should consider...
A coexisting syndrome is IBS (irritable bowel syndrome)...it sounds like that could be the source of the pain. But don't exclude other possibilities ie you could have something not related to FMS....
I have already had my gall bladder removed and my appendix. Last fall I was admitted to the hospital with severe abdominal pain and at that time they thought it might be pancreitas then they decided it was from a piece of gull stone that found its way to my liver! My gall bladder had been removed in 2004! I don’t think they really knew what it was from. I spent 3 days in the hospital. I had a few episodes a few years ago with severe abdominal pain, would go to the ER and by the time I got there the pain completely went away! The pain I experienced the other night was as severe but in the lower abdominal area. I have not had anymore pain in my abdomin since!
I do wonder if it has anything to do with IBS or Gastritis! My thing is now that I have been diagnosed with FM I don’t always know what all the symptoms could be so I don’t go to the doctor probably like I should. Thanks for all your input! I learn so much from all of you everyday!
Sphincter of Oddi... I could not remember the name of that thing...LOL... anyways ...It happens to some people after they have had their gall bladder removed... I was like you the first time by the time I got to the hospital it was gone...and they brushed it off as gas... IT WAS NOT GAS!!! lol When it happened again I did not bother to go to the hospital... just got through it... anyways it was a Cousin of my Hubbys who told me about this sphincter...I need to make an appointment with a gastro. Doc. to have that issue looked into... but not so sure I want to...Hope you are going to mention this to you Dr.
