My gums around my eye teeth are sore and my jawbone hurts. When I bite down I feel the pressure in my jaw. When I eat, even like grilled cheese, it burns my inner mouth (cooled so not hot) as if it was extra hot. Even skin, mucuous membrane peels sometimes.
A few months ago I posted- I had a crown put in with a bad reaction to the injection and dry mouth began again. Had not had for years. Still have it sometimes. I think that when he adjusted my bite he screwed up.
No answer for dry mouth. Had exam with MD specialist in mouth and neck. Checked saliva glands and they work, sluggush but work on both sides. He said he would expect only the left side to not work if the injection hit a nerve.
Went to new dentist- second opinion. He wants to do a deep scaling- I do not. Too much pain and cannot afford. He found plaque but only small amount on the xray of the eye tooth.
I think that the dry mouth is sliding against that a spot, like rubbing against a blister and that is why that area is so tender and raw.
Does anyone else have this? Extra sensitive mouth (toothpaste doesn't change the issue nor does Biotene) and pressure in the jaw when you chew or even bite down.

Have fibro, GERD, IBS, chronic fatigue, thyroid issues
I think you identified some of the issues that I have discovered today. This new dentist wants me to rise with Chlorhexidine. Well, in doing research on side effects (I will get them if there are any)- I found out that it has an ingredient that is also in Sensadyne and many mouthwashes. I switched to Sensadyne after the crown. It ends up that Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), the most widely used detergent in toothpastes, has been reported to cause adverse effects on oral soft tissues. causes dry mouth, mouth sores, irritated mucosa (inside of mouth), swollen lips and inside of cheeks, etc.
It also causes the burning. So I ended up with a vicious cycle. The more I use the products the worse it will get. I think the salt mouthwash and using only baking soda to brush my teeth is what I am going to try. I have discovered that the mouth sores will also be worsened if I don't keep using Biotene balm inside my mouth so that my lips move more smoothly over the teeth to prevent sores.
Check your toothpastes and mouthwash. I used the Biotene oral rinse to remove dry mouth tissue and caused this without anyone warning me. Dentist should have told me.
Other caustic medications include eugenol and chlorpromazine. Hydrogen peroxide, used to treat gum disease, is also capable of causing epithelial necrosis at concentrations of 1-3%. Silver nitrate, sometimes used for pain relief from aphthous ulceration, acts as a chemical cauterant and destroys nerve endings, but the mucosal damage is increased. Phenol is used during dental treatment as a cavity sterilizing agent and cauterizing material, and it is also present in some over the counter agents again intended to treat aphthous ulcerations. Mucosal necrosis has been reported to occur with concentrations of 0.5%. Other materials used in endodontics are also caustic, which is part of the reason why use of a rubber dam is now recommended.[5]
I have Sjogren's syndrome, an autoimmune disease which causes severe dry mouth and dry eyes. I use all of the biotene dental products, mouth wash toothpaste, chewing gum, gel. I have been told by a friend to stay away from the spray, that it will ruin your teeth, but all of the other products are very helpful.
I have lost most of my teeth from dry mouth, so do all you can to keep your mouth moist. The biotene makes a tremendous difference. With me, I find I am also clenching my teeth from pain, and have cracked a few this way.
Hope you can get some relief, I know it's a lot to handle with everything else!
Wising you well,
SK
BTW, the Lyrica that I take for sciatic nerve pain helps the exposed nerves in my mouth!
Our little pharmacy has an off brand of mouth wash that I bought the last time, it even tastes a bit better and is significantly lower in price than biotene. The brand is 'Good neighbor Pharmacy dry mouth mouthwash'. relieves dryness and irritation! It works just as well, about half the price!
Last nite I brushed with just my toothbrush and rinsed with warm water, no salt. Just great until I put on some Biotene gel on my inside lips. Then the sores came back. This morning I brushed again with just a little toothpaste and rinse a lot with warm water. Some sores after the toothpaste, but getting saliva back.
I really think we are onto something. I wish a pharmacologist was on this chat
Hi Linda, I have had very painful gums on and off for a long time now. I hope there are some answers here, my dentist says they look ok. My mouth get sore too, like a raw feeling on the roof of my mouth. Jaws too, but I clench my teeth alot, and I'm supposed to get a mouth guard. Lets both hope for an answer, hugs, Charlie :)
Okay my ex’s dad was a dentist. Do use the biotine. Only drink water and tons of it. Make sure your teeth a brushed before you go to bed. And for heavens sake get a mouth guard, whether you think your grinding or not just do. Even a cheap one for athletes that you boil and mold yourself. Now toothpaste use sensodyne were not old, our bodies just need tlc. Brush right before you put in your mouth guard at night, brush your guard too. (and spend the $35 and invest in the electric toothbruch at Target its a med blie and white color, your teeth and gums need this) Then coat the outside of your guard with aquaphor lip balm. Apply to lips also or I like Sally Hansen pm lip plumper, less greasy and makes you feel pampered. (and it’s not expensive) drink water or use biotine as needed whenever. Also of you continue to get ulcers in your mouth, remember this is a form of herpes simplex just like shingles or fever blisters. You can have your dr prescribe a med. such as zovirax at a low dosage like 200 mg daily as a prevanative. And if you do break out take 3x daily that week. I never have mouth issues anymore. And in fact, I am in my first bout of shingles right now in I’d say 6-9 months. Which I just had lidoderm patches called in for. As far as the mouth, the is the best advice I can give you I’m 35 and never had a cavity in my life.
