Hi Bonnie,
You write an very nice blog! I had to chuckle about the neck adjustments, it takes time to be able to relax enough to have trust in your DC for this! He'll tell me to take a deep breath, let it out slowly, and to wiggle my toes, and he'll get my head, swing it around and it sounds like someone stepping on hard pretzels! ha!
Glad this is helping the Vertigo, it was my Chiro who helped me with mine!
Sounds like things are going well, and you are responding! Just remember, 'baby steps'!
Thanks for sharing!
Wishing you well,
SK
Well Bonnie, I hope all your torture one day pays off. Some of our members go to chiropractors and they just really believe in them. SK, one of the monitors, really has a very good relationship with her chiropractor.
I went a few times many years ago, but I just was really uneasy with how much torture they left me in and I could not keep this up and teach full time. I had to drive several miles to the chiropractor and had to take the whole day off. This was too much time off in my opinion also because I taught in a multi-graded classroom so it was very time-consuming for me to prepare properly for a sub.
Are you still teaching school all the time? Or have you taken a medical leave?
Gentle hugs
Rachel
Hi Bonnie - I had to chuckle at your post about waiting for that moment after the torture. I have to share that I had to stop going to my traditional chiropractor and massage therapist because the tender points were making the digging out too painful. If you do get to the point where it is too much, I would HIGHLY recommend looking into Network Spinal Analysis. This is a different chiropractic approach that uses gentle touches during adjustments but still gets the movements of the traditional with the bonus of this uncanny ability to get those tight muscles to just release. I had a Massage therapist work for a full year on my shoulders and my network doc was able to unwind them in under a month. For those of us already sensitive to touch, it’s a good alternative.
That is interesting LadybgBeth. I will look into it meaning I will research it on the internet. However, I live in a town of 3700 so it's unlikely that the chiropractor in town uses this approach. But it wouldn't hurt to phone and ask him. Otherwise I would have to drive one hour to the city and I hardly ever go there. When I was teaching I would often drive to the smaller city on a Saturday, but now I hardly leave the house. Once a week I make myself go uptown to do grocery shopping and other errands.
I expect you live in a city where this is available. Right? Under those circumstances I might consider giving it a try, but not when I have to drive an hour to get to it.
Thanks for posting the information because it might really fit the bill for some members.
Your blog is excellent, Bonnie. I can't go to the chiropractor because of Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. My joints are already really loose because I have the hypermobile type of EDS. One chiro I met told me that he wouldn't touch me and I shouldn't let anyone give me adjustments because it could cause injury for those with certain connective tissue disorders. Sometimes a deep tissue massage sounds good though.
Waterwaves, this too is good information for our members to know because some have what you have, EDS.
I do live near a city, but it is worth checking in to. There may be some out near you that you didn’t even know about!
Most of the newer Chiropractors are versed in the 'gentle Chiropractics', but do not do the traditional ones, however, many of the older ones are trained in both methods.
For me personally, only the traditional adjustments work for me, I have done the gentle stuff and I might as well have thrown my money away, but it's an 'each to their own' deal!
Are they also giving you stretches, usually done with those big elastic bands, this allow your muscles to comply with the adjustments, with the aim for your muscles to support the correct position of your body? There is no one better to give you PT than a Chiropractor, they will know your spine much better than a mere Physical Therapist!
There is also a newer method called 'flection and distraction'. They use a certain type of table, and they will position you on it, and then snap the table into a different position. This is very severe in my opinion, I had just ONE snap of the table and that was too much for me! I cannot tolerate that, it was like getting into a car accident all over, HOWEVER many are helped by this method every day, I was just not one of them!

I believe my Chiro is a healer...I love him. He uses so many techniques and never the same. He is very far away but worth the miles and the 30$. I have a girlfriend who uses him as well and we go together as I don't drive. We used to talk about how we could feel ourselves go back out of whack on the way home but after months, that didn't happen and our bodies learned how to get back in the right position thus the adjustments lasted longer.
I keep him abreast of all things going on with me medically and emotionally and then he takes care of it. I always either hot tub before or hot shower to ease the adjustment. He days that long hot showers are a Fibro sufferers best medicine...he suffers as well.
Enjoyed your blog :)

Thanks SK!
I'm still teaching full time. I teach 3 sections of 5th grade Reading/Language Arts. I go to the chiropractor after school, and then get home and collapse. So far I'm handling the chiropractor and work, but I have taken a day off here and there when it gets too bad and I just need to recuperate.
Gentle Hugs,
Bonnie
Thanks, I'll definitely look into this network spinal analysis.
Gentle Hugs,
Bonnie
I've been using a heating pad, but I'll try the long hot shower next time.
Thanks,
Bonnie
I respect all people and their right to seek out any kind of relief they can find, but fibro is a muscle and connective tissue issue and I don't see how getting your bones cracked, unless you have another underlying cause will help with the pain of fibro I would think it would inflame the ligaments and overlaying muscles I am a health care professional and would be a bit hesitent of a chiropractor claiming to help fibro gentle massage I get, but even deep tissue massage can leave you in terrible pain if applied to deeply as I said if it helps you more power to you but speak to your doctor before you go and have these adjustments done you may be doing more harm then good
Hi Jeannie,
I have never had good relief from a chiropractor for my fibro. If my neck feels out of whack, I get relief then. Or I also sometimes get my hips adjusted. But I have also had a total body adjustment throw me into a flare! So yes, I agree Jeanne, while it may help some issues, a total rigorous chiropractor adjustment can actually make me feel worse with my fibro then better.
Hugs,
Shell
Hi Bonnie,
It was fun to read your blog! I know what you mean about the neck!! Lol. But actually that is what I get relief from the chiropractor for. My neck and hips. But those are different conditions for me. Otherwise, a whole body work over feels me also like being hit with a bat! I never did find it to help my fibro, but different people respond differently to different things. I guess as you say you will see if it helps or if you will always feel like you were hit with a bat! I know for me personally,I never overcame it making me feel bad for a couple days and actually throw me into a flare. So I pretty much just have it when neck or hips out. Good luck to you. Keep us posted.
Hugs!
