I also have low D. Nothing has been able to get it into the normal range. Yes, temporally, but nothing for good. My lowest has been a 5 but I am usually around a 7 or 10. Ugh!
My doctor diagnosed me with a D deficiency 4 months ago. Since I have taken it my flares have been less frequent.
That’s very helpful, will go over all of my old blood tests to see if ever tested. Just had full panel a few months ago, not included, can’t go back agin, will just take some D3. I know people do take some large doses but this is a fat soluble vitamin and hangs around a while, not like C so I think one needs to stay on top of it.JMHO.
But I’ll take 2000iu daily for a bit and see if it helps.
I'm also showing low levels of vitamin D. I am from Costa Rica and taking a daily doses of 4,000 U (28,000 U per week) supplement. I started with 1,000 U in April and here is no way to increase the levels. Mine are not too low as yours (I'm having 20 U as a result in the blood test)
I'm also having low levels of magnesium and calcium and I'm taking supplements for that. I'm in a study with a metabolic doctor additionally to the rheumatologist and we have find also that my body requires HIGH levels of protein to work (about 65% of dairy food). Even that last test keep demonstrating low levels of protein.
It should be some relationship on this.
As a child and up till a few years ago I suffered leg cramps. You know how painful that can be. I could not streach as it brought on leg cramps. Most doctors said i needed calcium. But the last few years I have been taking vitamin D. And I’ll be darn, no leg cramps. I can streach like a cat. Dose it ever feel wonderful.Morning every one. Be well wishes to all. HUGS

Thank you for posting this, Penelope. When I was practicing as a physician assistant I had a few patients who had come in for severe muscle weakness and pain. They were low in their vitamin d levels in the blood. Standard treatment at that time was 50,000IU once per week for 8 weeks, then retest the level. If it was ok then the patient was placed on daily doses of vitamin d 1000IU. I think there might have been some changes in the last few years. Hope this helps.

This is interesting. thank you for all those references. I too had low Vit D, my neurologist tol me to take Vitamin D 3, 1000 IU daily. I suppose it raises the question when so many of us have a Vitamin D what that has to do with our finromyalgia. It also raises the question as what vitamin D really does in the body. Looks suspicious to me unless, most people have low Vitamin D,across the population. That would be interesting to know. Take Care Barb
I have also been prescribed 50,000IU per week for vitamin d deficiency. Last week was my first week. Hope this helps with something…anything!
Mine was 6 the last time tested, and I just threw away the dose she told me to take. Oh, well, I see her in two weeks because I had new blood work today due to the food poisoning last week and dehydration. We’ll see. Hugs and Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Though this was a response to fibrokitty, everyone has contributed some very good info! Thanks everyone! We are lucky to have so many 'smart cookies'!
Oh no! I have never had food poisoning, but my son and husband have and they both say it was the sickest they were in their lives! Like you don't have enough to deal with! Hope you have recovered, Tricky!
Sending love and hugs,

Good to know! Thanks everyone!
That’s the way I feel. Hoping for a little help. I’ve lost 30 lbs in 3 months because the pain and fatigue are so bad I’ve lost my appetite. Drinking slim fast for energy and some nutrition. Skinniest I’ve been in 6 yrs! At least thats one good thing
Good news!
Thats very interesting. You all seem to have more info than drs I’ve seen
SK, thanks. This is my 2nd time. Makes you want to die! Yes, when I went back to the dr, they were all telling me how much better I looked. Tomorrow is my birthday, and I hope I feel like going out to eat! Take care.
Happy Birthday. Hope you have a illness free day

Mine has always tested as normal, but I take good vitamins, and D3 is part of the mix, chances are good that if I did not take them, I would be deficient!
